Mixed, though lean FB. Their older stuff is a bit derivative of Seattle grunge bands.

Yeah, but it was pretty damn good.  But Weiland is a bit of a douche.

So it was. Ain't listened to it in ages though.
And I'm not actually aware of anything they might have done after the sucky Tiny Music. Dropped off the radar rather completely.

I saw Stone Temple Pilots twice in the 90s.  Once in Dallas and once in Boston.  The concerts were both in huge venues so the full instrumentation was in use.  Lots of different guitars and percussion instruments.  Can't say I've listened to them for a long time, but back when I used to listen to that sort of music I think I liked them.

I just popped the in the purple CD and am trying to listen to it.  Nowadays it gives me a headache.  Objectively, I think CORE is a good album.  The musical style was unoriginal, but the lyrics, an aggressive expression of angst and lost innocence, set apart by a unique vocal melody, were relevant to the rudderless genX crowd that drank them in.  STP rode that fame (especially from PLUSH) to make some decent music for a while after that.  Some songs on purple and Tiny Music are well done, others are weak.  After that, they made a few more albums with which I am less familiar.  Sometimes quantity matters more than quality, though, so their place in the pantheon of 90s grunge bands is probably secure.

I can't sit through this.  I'm going back to the old man channel.  Right now they're doing a Domenico Scarlatti sonata for mandolin and cembalo.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I think I only know like one or two songs on any other album of theirs.
