I'd assume it would have been Jerry Brown in the 1978 governors race.  Any others?

I think that 1978 might have been the last time.  March Fong Eu also carried it that year; she won every California county during her reelection for Secretary of State.

Well, Tom Torlakson is a known Democrat and won 50.1% in Orange County to DTS but Republican-backed Larry Aceves' 48.4%.

I assume we're not including county office elections? If we are, there was this guy:

If you're talking about presidential elections, the last time Orange County went Democratic was in 1936! This was the election where Franklin Roosevelt won by huge landslide. Alf Landon was the loser.

About a dozen statewide D candidates (none for P except FDR 1936) have carried Orange County.

Sheridan Downey for Senate in 1938.

  Attorney General nominee Stanley Mosk in 1958,

Senator Alan Cranston in 1974 and Secretary of State non-incumbent winner March Fong in 1974;

Governor Jerry Brown in the 1978 reelect;

the 1978 reelects of Secretary of State March Fong, Treasurer Jesse Unruh, and Controller Ken Cory;

the 1986 reelects of Secretary of State March Fong Eu, Treasurer Jesse Unruh, and Attorney General John Van de Kamp; and the 1998 reelection of Controller Kathleen Connell);

the BOE candidates were BOE-4 Member Richard Nevins in 1962 and BOE-2 Member John Lynch in 1974).

In 1914, 1910 Republican Surveyor General W.S. Kingsbury running as a Progressive-Democrat carried Orange County.
