Wait... the Peace Corps thing is serious?  That came out of nowhere... and Jeff, you honestly think you're not impulsive.  If you're talking about the Peace Corps in September, what happened to CAD school?

Obviously Bushie isn't going to weigh 200 pounds ever, so why harp on him?

About a year from now, I hope to make a liar out of you on this. Smiley

Hey, I hope you do, but I am nearly certain I will be correct. Plus, getting into the Peace Corps isn't an easy thing to do. You don't just 'decide' one day you're going to do it when you're obese with lots of medical problems.

I do hope I am wrong about all of this, but I am batting 1.000 right now since you came home from Utah, and I don't see that changing.

I'm still praying about it.  I haven't decided one way or the other.  I would like to go.  I'm only going to apply in September in an effort to leave next Summer, so I still have time to get the CAD certificate.  My Pastor told me one of the best way to find out if God has opened a particular door is to approach the door and knock.  If the door opens, it is God's Will, if the door does not open, it is not God's Will.  Also, while I am going through the Application Process, I will be starting to raise the $5,000 to go to Kenya for the Summer 2015 should the Peace Corps not be the right move.  If I do go to the Peace Corps, I will return every penny of the $5,000.  If I do not go to the Peace Corps, I will already be on my way to the $5,000.

We shall see won't we.  I will say that scheduling an appointment with a Dietitian is a good start, wouldn't you agree?  The only trick will be sticking to the game plan that we derive.

Indeed, that was in the Summer 2000 right before my Senior Year of High School.

Right now, I'm nowhere near up to it, but with a little hard work and dedication things can change.  Plus, there's no harm in trying.  The worst they can tell me is "No" or "Not now".

What kind of fast food outlets do they have in Kenya?

No McDonalds or Burger King, but KFC since 2011. Subway just opened down there in February. Otherwise they have good local options.

LP readers favourites: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/kenya/restaurants/fast-food

Local African fastfood is generally a lot healthier than Western.

Are these pictures supposed to be future Bushie too? Have we concluded Bushie is trans now? I mean, I may have my suspicions about one or two posters here, but Bushie was pretty low on my "most likely posters to be taking estrogen in 5 years" list.

If you are, Bushie, a word of advice: you might want to deal with that before you leave for Kenya. I'd imagine a Christian mission in Kenya is probably not the best place to come out. Not that Oklahoma is either.

There was a reason I wrote "Jeff in a couple of years" on the first Peace Corps picture post and not the second.

On a serious note:

Peace Corps is a longshot. Development work in general may not be. There is a huge demand for IT knowledge in many developing countries. If you upgraded your minor to a major in computer science getting hired by a development organisation is probably not an unrealistic goal. If you can get your weight problem under control (not necessarily slim, just down to a level where they wouldn't consider it a risk factor).

I just think you need to be realistic about your skill level. E-commerce was an expensive and time consuming mistake, but you gotta leave that behind you and focus on getting a degree in an internationally recognized subject that's actually useful in third world countries. Computer science is your best (fastest) bid.

Peace Corps may well be a long shot, but it never hurts to at least attempt it.  Like I said, the worst they can say to me is "no" or "not now".  I haven't thought about Development Work, though, that may be something worth checking into.

I would like to upgrade my Computer Science minor, and I am going to go up to Alva and talk with the Department Chair and get his thoughts on the feasibility of such an attempt.

I hope to be able to talk to him in June.  He's probably on vacation right now as the Spring Commencement was just last Saturday, 11 May 2013.  If I can talk to him before I go to Kenya, then depending on his reaction, I may try to go up there this August and start the upgrade.  If I do go up there, I would likely delay the Peace Corps application for a year or so depending on how long the upgrade would take.

If I do go up to Alva, I will try to get into a low-rent apartment around town.

The next few weeks will be telling.
