Can he avoid death penalty if he gives answers? Hopefully he'll be telling everything ASAP.

Massachusetts does not have the death penalty.

That was exactly what I was thinking. This may just be the biggest terrorism trial in the world ever, legal specialists from all over the world will be looking to see how this is dealt.

Boston Globe reporting that 3 people have been arrested in connection w/bombings.

I wonder who the third person might be?

I believe it's three other people in New Bedford, MA.  May have to do with a women who had the older brother's baby.

His wife or another woman?

^Sometimes they are as trashy as Drudge, sadly enough. Sure am looking forward to Bill Maher tonight, though.

Maher tapes at 6 ET, so unless he comes back for an extra segment sans studio audience, The Daily Show won't be covering the capture tonight.

I think I posted it earlier, but the family released a statement 4 hours ago, the older brother has a now-widow (Portuguese/Italian, rhode island) and a 3-year-old daughter.

It seems that the consensus is that network news epic failed compared to the Internet on reporting this.

Except that they accused a guy who has been missing for more than a month for a crime he didn't commit, causing untold grief to his already grieving family and friends. Other than that, good job twitter retards!

Or the other two Arab American track dudes.

The sheer volume of information is pretty amazing though and I think some potential lessons learned on citizens as force multiplier. However, it can take a trained eye to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I do enjoy the greater amount of information and resources the Internet can provide. I really enjoyed listening in to the police scanner this evening. I just don't need a running commentary from a bunch of folks on twitter, just like I don't need meaningless commentary from more traditional news sources.

At least now the poor kid whose picture the NY Post plastered on the front page can hopefully sleep safely tonight.  What they did was truly some disgusting journalism.  But they did it in a way that they could claim credit if it was him, but not take any of the blame if some mob went out and lynched him.

Assuming that he survives his injuries, will he get a trial now under MA law (no death penalty) or federal law (death penalty) ?

My guess is the latter, but I really don't know.

I'm still wound up from everything that's happened over the last 24 hours. Like, wow. What an intense day.

The US Attorney can bring the case in Federal court and that's what they're going to do, I'm sure.  He violated a Federal law, under which the death penalty is an option.  So, the Federal Court has jurisdiction and he's subject to the death penalty potentially.

The odds that he'll actually receive the death penalty, regardless of where he's tried and if he's sentenced to it, are quite slim. Then again he is a high profile terrorist like Timothy McVeigh so he might end up being another rare exception.

He's young and preliminary evidence suggests that his brother may have coerced him into it. He'll keep a steep sentence but I can see him avoiding the death penalty.
