Just like Martin Luther King's march in Birmingham. To the extent the affair was a publicity stunt, the more I salute them - to that extent, it was not so much about them, as about us.

Is Deal's moral imagination really that constricted?

I'd like to once again apologize on behalf of my state. Sad

Ditto, and the sad part about it is that this won't help his Democratic Opponent next year either. White Voters here will be internally happy about this statement.

Wouldn't it be hysterically funny if he lost to Kasim Reed?

This is the Republican base we're dealing with here. How is anybody surprised? The level of unfamiliarity people in some parts of the country have with the GOP base is astounding. Some of you need to get out more.

The GOP's southern base. The GOP's northern base might be just as casually racist, but they wouldn't dream of maintaining segregated proms because they never had them in the first place and never heard of them.

The South is the GOP's base. Needless to say, there's not much need for segregated proms in suburban Cincinnati or Milwaukee.  In any case, GA Republicans think Newt Gingrich would be the best candidate for the Presidency. Why on earth would anybody expect sane positions from them?

What planet are these people living on and in what year?

Yup... northern liberals, always so much more racist than the good-natured Southerners.  Takin' black votes for granted and whatnot.  I wonder why?

Is Deal's moral imagination really that constricted?

Well yes, Torie, he's a Republican.  This 'constriction of moral imagination' is his whole raison d'être, n'est-ce pas?

Well we probably need to make a list of your favorite transitive principles opebo. So far we have:

1. Money = power
2. Pubbie = truncated moral imagination.

Other possible candidates:

3.  US = bad place
4. Thailand = good place
5. A religious = a fool
6. Tight jeans = sartorial affectation

We will skip the transitive principle involving nipples for the time being, OK?

It's not coincidence that Gingrich's primary comeback happened after he shouted down a black debate moderator for asking him questions about his questionable marital history. There were all these audience members who were interviewed afterwards and talked about how they liked that Newt "put him in his place." Something is very rotten in the state of Denmark. Very rotten, indeed.

Meaning me? My whole family are right wingers.. but mostly northerners. I am very aware of their paranoia, backwardness, and logical inconsistencies. However, this is the kind of crazy I thought was thought but not practiced in this day and age. It seems so.. illegal.

I am pretty sure Northern Republicans are the reason we do not have slavery. In fact, Northerners in general support civil rights in the 60s, while Southerners in general did not. I would not even call it a GOP and Dem thing.

That said there are racists in the North of various political affiliations. I have not seen any indication of racism among GOP Northerners, though. I also personally know there are many GOP voting Texans that detest anything remotely racist. It may be based on my inductive reasoning, but the racism in Georgia surprises me.
