There was a thread a while ago where you had to guess the pattern that determined the colouring of the states. I've decided to bring it back Smiley

Easy

Medium

Hard

Good luck!

Ai ai ai...

Is it safe to assume that the red/blue have at least something to do the Dem/Rep coloring?  And that these have something to do with elections/politics/whatever (not whether ball bearing output is higher than the national average or not)

first one is based on population, red = less than 8 CDs, gray = 8 CDs, blue = more than 8 CDs

BRTD, don't tell me you don't know the EV value of your own state....

MN has 10, as you should know.

Although, other than that little typo, it seems to work.

And now, for one of my own:

He said Congressional Districts, not electoral votes. Electoral votes are CDs plus two (number of senators). BRTD is correct; Minnesota has 8 CD's, but 10 electoral votes.

Oh, silly me...serves me right for castigating other people at 4am.

The second one:

Red:  states that begin and end in vowels

Grey:  states that begin and end in consonants

Blue:  all else.

BRTD got the easy one right, Erc got the second one right. The third one is very very hard, but it based loosely on the type of pattern used for the second map.

Guess the pattern on this one.
(Arizona Rep >30%, Arkansas 3rd party >30%, Louisiana 3rd party >40%)

Well, probably something to do with it being a tie...

Oh, and one of the reasons the other thread got dustballed was because there were too many maps.

No more then three on the table at any time! The current ones are my third, Erc's, and Lewis's.

Oh, damn, I just prepared a second one.
I'll hold it off until there's a vacancy (so solve my first fast, Hugh, it's really very easy.)

Since I've tried about a half-dozen approaches on Hugh's hard one, will have to leave in a couple of minutes, and consider my first one really easy anyways, I'll put up my new one and tell you the solution to my first one in this size so you can either read it or ignore it:
Each state's result drawn from last election where it did not vote for the winner

Hint: Might be said to combine approaches previously used by Hugh and me in this thread. SC should actually by D>90%.

Lewis' first one:

The last incorrect vote of each state (ie the result of the state when it last voted opposite to the final EV result of the country).

Lewis' Second One:

Each Letter is assigned a year.

A = 2004
B = 2000
C = 1996
...
W = 1916

Each state displays its results from the year corresponding to the first letter in its name (e.g. Colorado has the R +40 result from 1996).

I don't know if there's a 'vacancy on the table', and I'm sorry if there's not.

This one is so easy I can't believe I'm posting it.

states that begin with the letters A-M are red, states that are N-Z are blue.

Well done BRTD, done in like 20 minutes.

It was actually just the left column of the calculator was red, the right was blue.  So Montana stays blue.

My guess for nclib's map:

Most recent senate result from each state.

This is just a guess, however, as this doesn't seem to work for Nebraska and Maine (interestingly enough, the only two states that have presidential elections by districts).

A couple hints for my map:

None of this alphabetic nonsense there.  This is entirely based on election results.

Also note that Red/Blue do not have their usual republican/democrat connotations [and, no, I haven't flipped the colors or anything like that]

Correct...Maine and Nebraska were mistakes...I fixed them.

It's the presidential election results, except that Ohio should be red because it was stolen.
