For the first time ever, when my economic score and social score are averaged together in the Political Matrix, the result is a negative (or "leftist") number.

Economic score: +4.84
Social score: -6.52

Average: -0.84

Now, I'm not going to change my partisan allegiance, as I generally consider my (quite right-wing, as you all know) economic views to be more important than my social views. But, by mainstream American political standards, am I a leftist? Would my right-wing economic stances not be as big of a problem in a Democratic Party primary as my left-wing social stances would be in a Republican Party primary?

Your thoughts are appreciated. [/attention whore]

This is the best proof I've ever seen that taking a person's positions on a variety of issues and averaging them together into some number is completely and totally meaningless.

Your posts occasionally read as if they were written by Krazen. That is my answer to your question.

Leftist is almost always used for people who are very liberal, so no.

I wouldn't like being called a leftist, despite my slightly liberal-leaning PM score.

Vosem, you're a Ryanista economically. You're not gonna get within a few thousand miles of a Dem primary. Socially you'd be on harsh probie in a Pub primary. Dems would simply turn you away.

This question might be more interesting if applied to me actually (e.g., check out my ideas as to taxation policy). Tongue As to Vosem, er no, just no.

Your economic conservatism far outweighs your social liberalism, as far as I can tell.

You seem pretty conservative by American standards, just as Americans are conservative by global standards.
Of course, by our own standards, most Americans are pretty liberal.

Yeah. I started to get that suspicion when my responses to economic questions started to give me averages that make me look like a moderate hero in theory when in practice I still ought to be flung way out there to the left of all capitalist and most mixed-market Democrats and Greens.

For whatever reason the matrix also seems to give a lot of people lower scores on both axes than are useful for conveniently distinguishing clusters of progressives, conservatives, libertarians, etc.
