None of these facts are really that interesting? Though historically I guess OK is one of the more interesting states, with its significant relocated Native American population and strong Socialist movement.

This wacky Okie is more interesting than all those facts.

When I was a Cub Scout or in Indian Guides I took a field trip to the Port of Catoosa--a truly, truly underwhelming experience.  You'd think Wooloroc would have to rank as something

The beautiful prairies that we have been raised to love is what makes Oklahoma such a wonderful state, Bushie. Many good, friendly people live in Oklahoma, and life goes on peacefully and at ease, not rushed like it may be on the coasts. I'd take our Midwestern way of life any day!

I'm alwys bored out of my mind even in the St. Louis metro area. Can't imagine how awful the "peaceful" prairie life must be.

Oklahoma isn't part of the Midwest by any reasonable definition.

It has its good bits.  One of my favorite things as a kid was visiting my friend's grandma's farm near Sauk Center, Minnesota.. playing in the hay loft in the massive barn and running through the corn fields... tire swings... that kinda thing.  It was awesome.

Oklahoma does not completely fit in any major region, but it is culturally far more Southern than Midwestern.  The same is true for Missouri, but to a lesser extent.

There seems to be something about the Okie way of life that sharply contrasts the state with the Plains States further North.  Nebraska is currently ranked as the 15th healthiest state, Kansas the 24th, and Oklahoma the 43rd.

Also, notice that Iowa is the 20th healthiest, and Missouri the 42nd.  There is a very strange pattern here.

I've always grown up with a different interpretation of what the Midwest is than I've seen folks from other parts of the nation (and world) think. I lived awfully close to the Kansas-Oklahoma border, and by the definition used by many in this area, Oklahoma would certainly qualify as a Midwestern state.

Oh, and Oklahoma is the Choctaw translation of "Indian Territory". That then became the name of a railway stop in the middle of nowhere. That then became the name of a boomtown near it, in the parts of the territory stolen at that time. That then became the name of a territory created out of Indian Territory. With which it was reunited at statehood.

Here are some photos of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  A far cry from California City, California.
