The Great Gatsby is a tricky book to adapt, since so much of what makes it unique is Fitzgerald's prose. Of Baz Luhrmann's work, I've only seen Romeo + Juliet, but I found it very interesting. The good thing about Luhrmann is that he has a distinct enough style that he won't try and fail to ape Fitzgerald, which means the movie can be entertaining on its own merits.

Leonardo DiCaprio is certainly a good choice in the title role, even if he is a very safe and predictable choice. He'll play the part, and he'll play it well. A month ago I did mention to some friends that I would have liked to see a modern adaptation of The Great Gatsby with James Franco as Gatsby, but it turned out that that movie was released that very month, and it was as great as I could have possibly expected. In any case, I'm excited for this movie.
