Dems overwhelmingly want SHS, 68-16, but for some reason Brendan only has 42% name ID. She'd trail Rounds 49-44.

Wow, thought it was Brendan Johnson was trailing by 11.

Tim Johnson is in worse shape than I thought. SHS is needed to keep this seat in play.

The thing that could win Dems this race is if Noem upsets and beats Rounds in a primary, and she runs a rematch against SHS. However, I don't think that's especially likely, and more likely Rounds roundly defeats Brendan.

This is why I'm more receptive to SHS running for the House. At this point we're very likely to lose SD, SHS or not. Rounds is dangerously close to crossing the 50% threshold with her in the race, and Herseth could make the at-large competitive. And if Noem makes a primary challenge, the at-large could go blue.

Wow didn't think he'd be that far back this early in polling.  He might just be toast.

This pretty much assures Johnson will announce his retirement soon.

I say the Dems nominate Brendan Johnson to go against Mike Rounds, while have SHS have a rematch against Noem. If SHS would beat Noem in a Senate Race, I don't see why she couldn't do the same in a state-wide Congressional race.

At this point, Acquiring House Seats > Holding Senate Seats

Everyone's been saying that Johnson will announce his retirement in the next few days. Been rumoured since last year.

We're not going to hold this against Rounds with anyone. R+1.

Rounds was a lousy Governor.  No, is.  He still IS Governor since Dennis Daugaard is just his puppet.  Looks like the joke that is Mike Rounds will be my Senator AND my Governor at the SAME TIME.  Sigh.

Well, Judgment Day has come. Today is when Johnson announces his plans.

Like I said, I think he rides off into the sunset. When do we start praying that Noem runs?

One more day.

I'm already praying.

Johnson's retiring as expected. SHS and Brendan will have to decide between them which one runs.

It might actually be a better move to let Brendan be a sacrificial lamb, while hopefully have SHS win back her house seat.  Rounds seems very formidable and it would be a long shot for her to beat him regardless.  If we loose 2 or 3 Senate seats in 2014, I'll count it as a victory.

SHS is also considering a gubernatorial run. Both of them would be better advised to wait for 2018 or an open statewide officer's post. DSCC wants a name, so they'll probably get one.
