Which states would most likely to pass legislation that would make Abortion totally illegal?

New Mexico may not make it totally illegal, but it would be very restrictive out here in Populist-land.

PA would go illegal, or at least severe restrictions.

There really should be three levels for those states that would heavily regulate it but not ban it, Minnesota would fall under that. It'd probably be limited to the first trimester.

I agree with Supersoulty. Abortion would likely be banned in PA.

Yes, Supersoulty is correct. PA in general is more strict on the abortion issue. That's why they all come over to New Jersey.

I think that is a good map with PA, NM and MI being major tossups.  Although I may personally disagree, polls show 55-60% of the nation being "pro-choice", so I think we should keep that mind when designing the map.

Colorado has a lot of evangelical Christians and Christian organizations, especially in the Colorado Springs/El Paso County area (Focus on the Family comes to mind). Abortion in the Centennial State would have some serious restrictions at the least, methinks.

I think it would be a banned in a lot more states than on nickshepDems map.  If I could figure out how to post a map I would, but generally it would only be legal on the east and west coasts and in Illinois.  There would be quite an Underground Railroad running into good old IL.

If it happened as the map suggests how bad would that be? People who live in the anti-abortion states would be, at most, a one day drive from a state where abortion is legal. Someone in need of an abortion could still get one.

I figured my map would be way off.  I was just guessing around and hoping you guys would correct it.

No, because congress has made it illegal to transport people across state lines for purposes of avoiding a state's anti-abortion laws:

No, that law was to make it illegal to transport MINORS across state lines to avoid parental notification laws.

Yes, it is awful.  I'm sure restricting travel of adult females will be the next step.

Transporting adult females doesn't avoid parental notification laws.

No, such transportation would avoid state laws against abortion.  Just as slaves were transported to free states by the Underground Railroad.

The point of that law is to keep minors from dodging parental notification laws, not to keep them for getting abortions with parental approval.

Sure, though that is a travesty.  Once abortion becomes illegal throughout most of the country, similar laws will be enacted to prevent women from escaping.

No. There's a difference between an adult and a minor.

Wow, excellent breakdown.  I would disagree about Missouri, which would probably end up in the fully illegal category.

I *think* that WV would be the only state to ban both abortion and the death penalty
