Most recent decades were monopolized by one presidential administration.
Obama 2010s
Bush 2000s
Clinton 1990s
Reagan 1980s

There were three presidents during the 1970s and none of them held office for a majority of the decade. So when we look at the decade as a whole, which administration best represents the issues of the 70s?

Nixon 1970-1974: Vietnam, Watergate, Lingering civil rights struggles, detente, counter culture, rising inflation

Ford 1974-1977: Inflation, Fall of Saigon, recession,

Carter 1977-1979: Stagflation, gas crisis, Iran hostage

Nixon, definitely.

The 60's have 3 too, unsure if it's JFK or LBJ there. Johnson did the work and had more time, but Kennedy really was the spirit.

Yes... even if they were not in office for most of the decades, they were present in everything after them. LBJ pledging to continue JFK's legacy...Ford in Nixon's shadow with Carter trying to move on from Watergate...

Nixon, center right he enforced the bussing of black school children to intergrated schools like magnet schools in the decisions of his mentors of Potter Stewart and Powell but the south which was rising in opposition to the north liberal stances on civil rights was where he was powerful and the southern strategy.

Nixon embodied the America of the late 60s and the decade of the 70s.

He was arguably one of the most intelligent and best prepared candidates ever to assume the Presidency.

Unfortunately, he let his dark side take precedence over his extremely gifted and talented side.

He had so much to offer, yet he and America only realized a fraction of his potential as President of the United States and leader of the free world.

The 60s had 4 Presidents
Eisenhower (1960-1961)
JFK (1961-1963)
LBJ (1963-1969)
Nixon (1969)
