Of course it was introduced on Valentines Day. I can't think of any goal as ridiculous as trying to stop teenagers from having sex. Think back... long ago or in my case not so long ago... to when you were a teenager. If you had an opportunity to have sex with someone... you would have done it.

When will legislators learn that if you teach abstinence only education, you increase the number of teen pregnancies and abortions?

People have sex. Deal with it and give them condoms and birth control so they don't screw up their lives.

Why we need to have any sex education in the schools is beyond me. This is an issue for parents, not school boards.

Because
1 Educating teens to have sex responsibly is good for society.
2 Too many parents awfully suck at it.

No, if anything, we need dramatically increased sex ed in the schools. It's much better that teenagers find out how sex works from school than pornography on the internet. Schools should be teaching children how to use contraception, how contraception works, safe sex practices, the importance of consent, how orgasms work, the importance of STD testing, how to properly give oral sex, the importance of foreplay, sex positions, erectile disfunction and other sex problems, toys, etc. Most people are completely clueless on this stuff. Pick up a Cosmo and their exciting sex tips are "change positions during sex" or "spend time making out beforehand." And the theocratic sex-haters want young men and women to be even less informed than they are now!

Because the people whose parents probably won't do so are the people who, if they do have a baby, will feel entitled to have the 53% pay for their food and housing and healthcare and won't take responsibility and care for their lives.

I don't know why people like you are so opposed to spending some money on the front end to prevent or reduce problems that are much more expensive to address on the back end.

But way too many parents don't do it.  In an ideal world, I'd agree.  But at this point, sex education save society way more money than its costs are.

Because I oppose the state moralizing about what are and aren't good choices sexually. I suppose something like "this is how the pill works" would be fine, but my experience is that sex ed goes much further than that.

"This is how the pill works" would be fantastic in Mississippi.  There is an absolutely mind-numbing % of the population who has no clue.

Alas, no.

Anyways, I propose to spend the money to stop teens from having sex with each other and to get them to have it with me instead.

it is surprising he hasn't had a serious one. He is pro-life. He voted against repealing DADT and now this nonsense. His district is D+5 so any competent mainstream Dem should be able to win the general.

This is true in a lot of places.

Ugh, I read about this on my Congressman's page the other day. Really sad that he supports it. Hopefully it fails.
