Holy crap!! How did Democrats lose a seat in Flint even in 2010?

They didn't, Flint is in the red part of Genesee county. Sorry, it's kind of hard to tell. I probably should have done a detailed map of Genesee county.

Still, there is very little Republican territory in Genesee county from what I gather.

Genesee county minus Flint is democratic it was represented by Democrats John Cherry (1995-2003) and his sister (2003-2011) John Cherry was Granholm's Lt Governor. 2010 was just that much of a Republican year. State Senators are limited to 2 terms in Michigan if she ran she might have just barely won.

Genesee county for just 2010 with a more detailed map showing cities and townships. the Blue district is 26th. Flint is in the red part (27th). The 26th district also goes into Oakland county.

She probably would have won.  The loss of this seat was kind of a fluke for Democrats.

BTW, where do you get the data prior to 1998 (and does it include city/township results?)

What I did was find the state senate district maps and a list of the state senators by party and just drew the maps. I don't have any actual results for the districts. All my info here is from the Michigan Manuals. They have the election results for state senate and house but I don't think it is by city or township level, only county.

I use the Michigan Manuals for the election results I upload prior to 1990 (and including some prior to 1998 that aren't already on here.)

The Michigan manuals are great. Is there a library near you with copies of them.

Yep.  Delta College has them from about 1904 up to the 1940s and from 1956 to the present.  Saginaw Valley only has them from about 1970 onward.

It was a bit more Republican back in the day.  Nixon and Paul Bagwell both carried it in 1960.

The Library of Michigan in Lansing has all from the 1880's to current. and I believe the archives in the same building have before that.

I meant to post more maps over the weekend but had other plans then Sunday the touchpad thing on my lap top broke It is going to cost too much to fix so I'm just using a mouse right now, it's a little tricky getting use to a mouse again.

I will have the 1970's and 1966 state senate maps up tonight, and maybe a state house map of the 2000's.

Here is the statewide map of the 1974-78 state senate. It took quite a while to make this one with so many split counties.

Districts 9,17, and 25 shown on this map are only part of that district the rest of the districts are in the gray part and will be shown on the detailed map of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Genesee.

The state senate was 24-14 for both the 1975-78 session and the 1979-1982. which is the largest majority and percentage they have had in the state senate since 1855. I don't have the data for before that date.

Here is the Wayne county map. I did not draw the Detroit districts. I don't have a actual map for them only the census tracts and blocks and it would take too long to figure it out. They are all Democratic anyway. If you want to know what they are I can give you the tract and block numbers.

Here is Genesee county. It's all Democratic but I did a detailed map so you can see the boundary lines. Flint is split between 2 districts.

Democrats actually gained ground in 1978?  That was generally a pretty good Republican year accross all state legislatures.

2002 62 Republicans 38 Democrats

2012 is 59 Republicans 51 Democrats if anyone was curious. I will eventually do the map but probably last.

There are a lot more changes on the state house maps. I will do detailed maps for the gray areas.

Also it's kind of confusing I should have done more detailed maps for Calhoun county (Battle Creek) and Jackson County (Jackson). On the 2010 map the red district to the right of Kalamazoo county (in gray) that is the Battle Creek district (62), also Jackson is in the next district over with no number (it's district 64) NOT district 65.

here is a list of representatives by district and party. I should have done these maps by Legislature instead of election. If you didn't figure it out the 2002 map I made above would be the 2003-04 legislature and so on. So for 2002 map above click the 2003-04 Michigan Manual and then click chapter 3 the legislative branch then scroll down to House of Representatives and committees, you should get a list.

Here is Wayne county in detail. The Wayne county map I have is kind of deformed, the Grosse Pointe area is too big (district 1 area) District 1 also has a larger piece of Detroit than the map would show, maybe twice as large.

Also I did this backwards I started with 2002 as the first map and went up to 2010 instead of down from 2010.
