Republicans hold a 26-12 majority in the Senate after 2010. They stand to lose seats for sure after passing right to work and Snyder and republicans general unpopularity. Of course 2014 will be held under a different map with new districts that were again gerrymandered by the republicans. I might post the 2014 maps and which seats are most likely to flip, in my opinion. I don't think they will get to 7 seats (if they win the governorship) or 8 for outright majority.

I have all the way back to 1966 state senate election that I plan on posting if thats cool. My maps aren't that good, I made them on Paintbrush program for Mac. I have all the info to do state rep maps too back to 1966 but I have to make all the maps, all 110 districts plus I would have to have several more county detail maps like I have here for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb.

Also If your not familiar with Michigan and the state senate, there are 38 single member districts and they are all up for election every 4 years in midterm years (2002, 2006, 2010) along with the Governor.

All map boundary lines that aren't also city or township boundary lines, especially Detroit are approximate. I will link to actual maps that are official.

I think I should have done it the other way going forward, not backwards in time but maybe not.

Here is Oakland county. now it gets a little interesting. There are four maps because in 1983 Governor Blanchard and the legislature passed a major tax increase that lead to the recall of 2 Democratic state senators in late 1983. One in Oakland and the other in Macomb and the election of 2 republicans in January of 1984 . This caused the state senate to switch from 20-18 Democrat to 20-18 Republican. So the first map on the left is 1990 the second 1986 the 3rd is the 1984 special election and the 4th is the 1982 election.

Great job!  I've been planning on mapping the results by city/township.

BTW, where do you get the data prior to 1998 (and does it include city/township results?)

Macomb with the 84 special election, 1990, 1986, 1984 special, and 1982, left to right.

Wow, amazing that Democrats once held all of the Macomb seats.  The northern part of that county has some incredibly Republican areas.

What I did was find the state senate district maps and a list of the state senators by party and just drew the maps. I don't have any actual results for the districts. All my info here is from the Michigan Manuals. They have the election results for state senate and house but I don't think it is by city or township level, only county.

this 1970's map is a pain to draw I don't have a actual map I just have the counties and cities and townships that they are made up of. Also lots of the metro Detroit maps give census tracts for below city level. The 80's did some of this too but I had a statewide map outline copy, but it didn't break up as many cities.

I use the Michigan Manuals for the election results I upload prior to 1990 (and including some prior to 1998 that aren't already on here.)

They didn't, Flint is in the red part of Genesee county. Sorry, it's kind of hard to tell. I probably should have done a detailed map of Genesee county.

The Michigan manuals are great. Is there a library near you with copies of them.

Still, there is very little Republican territory in Genesee county from what I gather.
