Den Tandt/Brandon: Tories have lost Virdis, which he compares to losing suburban Calgary polls. Hatman?

Den Tandt saying on Twitter that his sources indicate Tory trouble in Brandon.

(Sorry, couldn't resist, considering you think the Tories will win)

Early results in TC will, I suspect, have a pro-NDP bias, given that any randomly selected poll (such as the first to report) is probably going to be more likely to vote NDP, given the geographic concentration of Liberal votes in fewer polls.

Possibly, especially considering turnout will be lower in apartments, so easier to count the ballots.  However, booths may be more likely to be run by slow pokes.

Is counting done at each individual polling site? Or is there a central counting location?

Don't you mean Virden? That would be a disaster, since that's in Maguire's provincial riding.

Same as the US

But it differs depending on which state and county!

I'm guessing you mean at polling sites?

If they lost Virden, the home area of the Conservative candidate and usually safe Conservative area, we are in the landslide indicated by riding polls.

I am not sure for who I voted last federal election.

Sounds like you're on the wrong forum! Strange statement considering how political savvy you seem to be.

Yes. The difference is we call them 'polls' rather than 'precincts'.

Ballot boxes are opened after the last voter in line at closing time has voted, and counted individually by the poll workers and party scrutineers as soon as possible.  Each one of those areas on canadian precinct maps correspond to a single ballot box

Counting is done at each polling station, yes.

How would one know this with polls in Virden presumably still open and votes not yet counted?

Why would Twitter exist if not for random unsubstantiated rumours?

Either it's intox, either someone in a party has talked. They often know that kind of thing, with their GOTV and pointing records.

if he's citing Tory sources, then Tory HQ knows how many of their IDs turned up to vote.

Scrutineers aren't supposed to be counting the ballots, but rather observing.
