http://news.msn.com/us/chicago-police-no-longer-responding-to-all-911-calls

Chicago police are no longer responding in person to 911 calls reporting vehicle theft, garage burglary or simple assault in a change aimed at freeing up officers to deal with more serious crimes.

It's a great thing that they have done everything possible to ban good law abiding citizens from owning guns.

As you yourself note, this is because of a lack of personnel.
But I'm sure you'll explain to us all how slashing wages and benefits for those evil unionised workers will solve the problem.

They could free up some money by firing teachers.

In this I-Team report, Chicago's rising murder rate in a new context, how the numbers of shooting deaths compare to the city's most notorious crime era, the one that has tarnished Chicago's reputation around the world for a century.

Great job banning guns from the people!

You can now get a permit to own a firearm in Chicago, but it requires firearms training, two separate background checks and a firearm owner's identification card. As a result of these burdensome and punitive measures, only 7,640 people currently hold a firearms permit in Chicago.

Yes, because less teachers and thus less capable educators certainly won't have an impact on the crime rate at all.

After which krazen will complain further about how awful the evil unionised educational system is.

Are you under the impression that more teachers has worked in Chicago, and that's why Chicago teachers are making a king's ransom?

People in Chicago actually could call 911 to file police reports on thefts?  I was told 911 was for emergencies only.

He thinks they do... basically, if anything Krazen writes actually makes sense, I'm going to walk in front of a truck.

Considering all the gang violence in Chicago, more guns wouldn't change a thing. You think regular people are going to into the street and have gun battles with the gangs?

Given the history of Chicago and its aggregate teacher salaries, of course.

The regular people are already in the streets. They're being shot dead.

I don't think that's a real sentence. Maybe you need one of these teachers

I'll take it over your utopia any day of the week and twice on Sundays when I'm sleeping in then having brunch with a couple of gay guys and a lesbian.

And they'd still get shot dead if they had guns, gangs don't care about who has a gun, it doesn't deter them. Most people avoid confrontation with gangs, they don't try to play Dodge City with them.

Vehicle theft shouldn't be a 911 call anyway, right?

No, it isn't. We've already got a non-emergency line in the UK to report crime like that, although I can't remember the number for it.

Of course not, if they kill the gangbanger first with their gun.
