I've only watched through episode 3, but this season doesn't make any sense. The Democrats vote lockstep to push through entitlement reform over the protests of the Tea Party? Ummmm??? And Underwood has Republican Senators literally arrested and handcuffed and there's no public backlash about this? Why are all the Democrats in this show right wing DINOs??

It was hilarious when one of the McPoyle brothers shows up as the l33t hacker though.

Don't think about it too much, Lief. There are titties in later episodes.

Also, for those complaining that Underwood never fails, that's the whole point of the series! It's dark and awful and there's no justice in it.

Actual Democrats in Congress aren't True Leftists. They're perfectly willing to cave on entitlement reform to stave off a government shutdown, in my estimation. Voting "lockstep" is incredibly surprising however. The Capitol Police thing was pure TV chicanery, of course.

IIRC the bill included other things that the Tea Party objected to (and a few Democrats voted nay as well). It was poorly explained though. The arrests were entirely symbolic.

The whole DEEP WEB plot was amazingly awful. I lost it when the l33t hax0r sent the journalist guy an ipad with the CGI monstrosity on it.

My favorite is the episode of Breaking Bad where a McPoyle is an arms dealer.

BTW I assume we can all agree that Cashew is the best character of Season 2.

To be honest, I'm probably not going to finish it. Even with my reservations, I still enjoyed the little I saw somewhat but I really don't feel compelled to watch the rest. More power to those who liked it, I suppose.

Okay, so the second half of the season gets considerably better (once they stop trying to be a third-rate nonsensical West Wing and get back to Frank scheming; the escalation between him and Tusk is done very well and it's very compelling, I thought). But then that threesome scene. Jesus christ no. No, no, no, no, no. Who thought that was a good idea?!

Who thought that was a good idea?!

Probably Kevin Spacey, right?

Anyway I'd put the first season at a solid B- and the second at a C. It's okay and watchable enough but hardly worth the hype.

I actually found Season 2 a good bit better than Season 1 (though still severely flawed for a host of reasons) because it had a better idea of what it wanted to be.

That scene will seem less gratuitous after the series finale.

...that's not what the impeachment over. The fact that it was made an issue at all was dumb, though.

Speaking of the blacks, I did enjoy the episode where they took us to the projects and Freddy's son was a one-dimensional gangster with anger issues who pulled out a gun on camera after a guy took his picture.

Wait no, that was also the worst.

Yes that was a low point for sure.

Yeah, Freddy's subplot was one of the stronger points of the season but his son was horribly flat. They even used the cliched holding the gun sideways IIRC.

The Freddy's subplot was awful. I hate it when stories insist on making every little detail into a plot point. Why can't some things just remain a part of the canvas?

Or at least if they're going to bother, why invest most of an episode in adding "depth" to a character and promptly write them out to show how Machiavellian your 2D protagonist is?
