Bank says upper middle, but everything else says middle-middle.

here is the key:

Upper Class: you (or your parents) make over $150,000

Upper Middle Class: you (or your parents) make between $70,000 and $150,000

Middle Class: you (or your parents) make between $30,000 and $70,000

Lower Middle Class: you (or your parents) make between $7,000 and $30,000

Working Poor: you (or your parents) make up to $7,000

source: http://taxes.yahoo.com/rates.html

and for those who are still dependants, i am referring to your parents or guardians.  you probably don't have an exact idea of what your parents make since my own do not even tell me, but just give a general idea on what you think it is.

P.S. this is an anonymous forum, so don't worry too much about whether this question is infringing on your privacy.

I think there are many problems with this.  I'd be lower middle class by the standard, but I have greater assets that someone that is upper middle class.

Also, there is much more than income to class.  A family in my town where the father is a trash collector and the mother works as a secretary may be upper middle class in income (even at the high end), but not in terms of "class."

Upper class. We're not millionaires or anything though. The fact that my father's a doctor and I'm looking into a legal career just makes us solidly professional.

You've got to be kidding.  The only place where making $8,000/year would make you lower middle class would be maybe here in Thailand.

My family is in the middle class. On my own, however, I am in the lower middle class.

My adjusted gross taxable income for this past year would make me lower class.  My back balance says something else entirely.

I actually misread that as $18,000. $8,000 is about $2,000 below the official poverty line. Still, if you're young $8,000 probably isn't that bad since you're probably doing part-time work and just starting out.

Lower middle class.  But where I live the cost of living is significantly lower than the national average, so I could be considered on the upper end of the lower middle class.  But I also work about 50-60 hours per week.

I barely qualify as middle-class, since I make about $31,000 (pre-tax) a year.

Though by this dichotomy, I am upper class, I voted upper middle class since my parents make ~$100,000 annually each, and that's not that much for Silicon Valley.
