Do you think that gov Bentley of Alabama has his job secure there? Do you see any potential challengers both dem and or republican in the future?    I don't see any possible dem challengers myself. What about you people?

He "only" won by sixteen points in 2010, but by all accounts he appears to be safe in 2014, although if former Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks runs again, it could get semi-interesting.

someone was mentioning this earlier, but the AL immigration law has hurt the ag industry there. If the race takes on a local focus (i.e.- not a referendum on Obama) then a Democrat could possibly make inroads in rural areas, but I still think Bentley will win with no problem.

Hasn't there been chatter that Bentley could get a primary challenge from Bradley Byrne or Tim James?

GOP people in Alabama would be waiting for a likely Shelby retirement in 2016 to get in a primary against an incumbent.
I think that Daniel Boman would be an interesting candidate for governorship.

A super butthurt Artur Davis probably wants to primary him, but also probably isn't relevant.

Boman is a disgusting candidate. He spread rumors about Aderholt being gay in the AL-04 race in 2012. It's bad enough when Republicans do that but worse when Democrats do. I mean I know it's Alabama and that the state Democratic Party is just as conservative as the mainstream Republican Party, but still.

Until Democrats can make inroads with white voters in the South, the region is going to be a GOP firewall.

The fact that he's a conservative white guy in Alabama and he switched his affiliation from Republican to Democratic in 2011 tells you he probably isn't too good at figuring out which way the wind is blowing.

'Looks like he could very well go for another run- just not in AL.

Apparently, he is considering VA-10, whenever Wolf vacates it, or a VA State Senate seat in 2015.

I hope he loses. A guy who votes 95% with the Democrats and then goes Republican is an absolute clown.

He'll get crushed by Connolly. It won't be pretty.

I'd like to seem him drafted and "highly touted" only to lose heavily. He's a political opportunist, plain and simple, and he almost makes Charlie Crist look consistent (I'm not a fan of either politician, btw).

Not a big Bentley fan, but there isn't many Democrats in Alabama that I think could beat him. Terri Sewell (AL-07) seems like the best chance, but I doubt she will try.

Could Jim Folsom, Ron Sparks, Bud Cramer, or Bobby Bright run?

Could a severely conservative black Republican like Allen West or Herman Cain win a statewide election in someplace like Alabama or Mississippi if the Democratic candidate was a rather centrist white guy?

Really? He only lost his LG race by 3 points in 2010; I would think that a comeback there would be more appealing.

I agree. Alabama has a thing of bringing back old Governors. Wallace, Graves, and Folsom Sr. are proof of that.

On side note, Folsom is probably one of the unluckiest politicians in America. Won a nomination to Senate, which still was considered a tantamount to election, only to suffer narrow defeat to Denton, riding on Reagan's coattails. Succeeded the Governorship in 1993 after Hunt's convictions, became popular and successfull chief executive during his short time, expected widely to win in 1994, just to lose another close race to Fob James (btw, another old Governor brought back), riding on the Republican wave.

That could happen, but I believe the white democrat would be favored.
