This is basically an example of what I was saying about music genres (or its degree of concealed "racism") depending largely on the generation it's intended to appeal to.  This song in particular clearly has a sound to it that probably wouldn't be recognized as country in the 1970s or even the 1990s.

So, do you think it qualifies to fit into another genre besides country, specifically emo or pop punk?

I haven't listened yet (I will), but emo and pop punk have basically nothing to do with each other beyond both being both offshoots of punk. The closest thing to a combination of both would be bands like Algernon Cadwallader and Street Smart Cyclist, which don't sound anything like straight examples of either.

No, this is just standard mainstreamized pop country. It sounds absolutely nothing like emo or pop punk.
