He's an artist, so ...

And now imagine a photo-op with the major world leaders ... Smiley

It ought to be noted this is the first direct Czech presidential election ever.

Yup, he's a seasoned troll but quite accomplished politician. Was effective PM and basically founded Czech Social Democratic Party. However, I have some problems with, because of views like:

It appears race is a tie between Zeman and former PM Jan Fischer, a beaurecrat-turned-"technical"-PM-who-stayed-longer-on-than-expected-and-apperently-is-quite-popular.

To be fair, Franz doesn't look as daft as Karel Schwarzenberg when he's got his pipe on the go...

Nice to see both the ODS and TOP09 candidates in single digits.

I suspect Zemen is backed by more conservative voters and Fischer is backed by more leftish ones. That's a total guess though. Can anyone confirm?

Certainly not, as the top two conservative parties are running  their own candidates, who even together barely gather 10%. Also Zeman runs a breakaway fraction of the Social Democrats, so he would hardly be first choice for the rightists, even if he shares some of their bizarre ideas, like on Global warming.

The fact that conservative voters aren't backing the ODS or TOP actually supports my argument.

Tattoo man is now in third place with over 10% of the vote. Beating out both the ODS and the CSSD candidates.

I hate it when they don't poll the second round. It's been pretty clear for months now that Fischer and Zeman will advance, so what's the use of polling the first round for the 50th time?

I'm thinking that tattoo man will get to run-off. In election day, protest voters will go for him. If election had been 3 years ago, Schwarzenberg would have it on bag.

Well, the Czechs did elect Vaclav Claus. That's not much more believable.

It had never occurred to me before, but I just realized how much Schwarzenberg is like Simfan:

If only Simfan were 40 years older, white, and had a mustache...

Schwarzenberg outperformed the latest polls by about 2-times (he had about 10-11% support) ...

Much stronger result for Schwarzenberg and Dienstbier than the polls indicated; any idea what happened?

Either a poll fail or the youngsters didn't turn out for the Tattoo man and Schwarzenberg has high personal ratings according to what I've read. But I don't know really much about Czech Politics.

Fischer did poorly in a debate against Zemen. His supporters switched to Schwarzenberg.

There goes my pet theory about Zemen being the right-wing candidate.

Anyway, good to see the ODS coming in behind the Christian Democrats and the Greens.

Yeah, a debate changing things would make sense. Anyone got results by Region?
