Not really, though I've had a few occasional trouble spots as I've read that. Societal conditioning and whatnot.

Nah, it's not too hard. If anything, the challenging spots arose when I just flat-out didn't know the words. Which is embarrassing, considering English is my first language. But whatever. Tongue

Do you have trouble with German's irregular plurals, adjective endings, and three genders? Those were the hardest points for me when I studied your language. Well, what I studied is not really what you guys speak in Austria, but you know what I mean Smiley

Yes, because it's much too long and not very interesting.

I first saw this about ten years ago, love it.

Made a voice recording, but it's just on my phone so the quality isn't ideal. Still, happy to email it to anyone who may want it. You'll need VLC to play it though.

Some of those couplets depend on the local dialect

There are some dialects in which aunt rhymes with haunt and not grant, tho not in mine.

And while fury does not sound like bury, (tho it does sound like -bury), query definitely rhymes with very in my dialect.

Indeed, it's the dialects that do in any serious effort at spelling reform.  But in a couple of centuries it might be possible once we all speak English like the Indians do.

Why would we speak English with an Indian accent in a couple centuries??

Why not! but at the same time, this is just pointing out things with the same suffix that don't rhyme in his dialect, its essentially a list, quite boring.

I had no trouble comprehending the poem, although I am a native English speaker. It's poems like that that make you realize how difficult English is for a non-native speaker.

Also, some of it can be cut out if you use American English, like the one comparing "devour" and "clamour".

True.  It's definitely seems to be intended to be read by someone who speaks with Received Pronunciation, like opebo does. Grin

I agree with True Federalist's points. There are too many places where the rhyming depends strictly on dialect/accent. Personally, I pronounce aunt the same as ant. As for other pronunciations, I'd rather not pick and choose my differences here.
