I guess it's time for the nation to find out that Idaho has a senator named Crapo. And that if he's to be replaced, a man named Butch Otter will be the one to do it.

This isn't really a scandal unless there's some kind of gay angle.

If David Vitter can still get re-elected, Crapo can survive this.

Maybe Crapo is gay.

Tell that to Vito Fossella.

To be fair, Vito Fossella would probably have won the general had he run again. Crapo would probably still win the general too, but let's see if he gets that far.

not cool, drinking and driving. I wonder how drunk he was, not that it really matters. You would think he would call a cab but people don't think. If I were I senator I wouldn't risk my career. But I'm a pretty cautious person, if I'm drinking so much I can't drive I plan ahead and get a ride home or crash at a friends house. The whole Mormon thing could hurt him in Idaho though.

Dumb mistake.  I'm glad he didn't hurt anyone.

But that's about as far as I care.

Actually, since Mormons have quite a lot of political influence in Idaho, it could be a lot bigger than you'd think. A lot of influential political leaders are of the old-style Mormon social conservatism, and hate having their reputations endangered. There may be huge repercussions from this one event.

I'm betting Larry EchoHawk is regretting leaving politics now.

Perhaps mensrooms are popular amongst Idaho Republicans? Well, when your constituents are automatons for your party, you do get kinda cocky. Rural states, especially ones that are prodominently Evangelical or Mormon are now almost as hyperpartisan as Large, old Cities.

He should go to jail for a fairly long time. Unfortunately, drunk driving laws in this country are a joke.

The GOP primary that will ensue if Crapo retires will be very exciting.

Don't underestimate the power of the Crapo name in Idaho. If he apologizes in a prompt manner, he may emerge from this scandal unscathed. A big chunk of the GOP base relates to this behavior and may sympathize with his mistakes.

I can't say than Idaho has great Senators.
A few years ago, they had Larry Craig, now, that.

This. This very very much.

In part because anybody capable of driving accident-free while *blind* drunk has a history of undetected drunk driving.

I was reading an article on how he was taking on a more prominent role in the GOP conference just the other day. Oops!

Oh come on guys - jail?  You actually want people imprisoned for drunk driving?  Sounds ridiculous to me.
