Good to see he's got more political sense than his supporters. Wink

Smart. While Brown is the only formidable candidate GOP can run in Massachusetts, it's not 2010 anymore, in fact, 2010 was a fluke. Brown was aided by the worst campaigner Democrats could possibly nominate, anti-Obama tide was growing and, frankly, a lot of Massachusetts voters got pissed Democrats took the seat for granted. In normal cycle he lost, and now even narrowly, despite high personal favorites.

Governorship is the only course for him. Massachusetts voters have tendency to like Republican moderate heroes for state level.

Weld is probably out of politics for good.  I'm sticking with Brown.

You may be sticking with Brown, but Brown isn't sticking with Brown.

It's going to be either Weld or somebody I've never heard of, and I think the latter is somewhat more likely. Tisei is the only other even remote possibility I can conceive of at this point.

I highly doubt Tisei, unless he does a regional thing to basically go on a permanent campaign against Tierney.

Healey, Gabriel Gomez, and Dan Winslow are each considering a go for it.

I would love to see Tarr get in the mix.

I would like Weld to try again in the political game, but I know he has no chance of winning. Tisei is fine too, although it would probably be easier for him to get the congressional seat, considering how close it was last time.

Unfortunately, Healy is also thinking about a run.

WHY is he not runnng!?!?!?  Does he WANT to kill off the last Yankee Republicans!?!?!?  CURSE YOU SCOTT BROWN!!!!!!  Angry
And Kalwejt, 2010 wasn't entirely a fluke.  Up until the debates in 2012, it looked like Brown was going to win reelection.  Then after he crahses and burned in the debates, so did his chances.  Elizabeth Warren was a virtual unknown early in the campaign, too.  Granted, she still won, Sad but she had to overcome some serious odds to do it,

Brown was trailing long before the debates.

Brown is making a logical and intelligent decision to not run in this race.  He'd have a much better chance at the Governor's race in 2014.  Markey's got this in the bag.

Makes sense. Pubbies are ed unless Weld somehow gets the nomination. Tisei too inexperienced, Healey linked to Romney and doesn't strike me as moderate enough to win a GE.

Btw, why on earth is Markey running? This really doesn't make sense. Not only he's kinda old for a freshman (66). More importantly he'll transfer from one of the most senior, and thus influential, members of the House (8th) into a freshman Senator who, for obvious reason, won't have much time to gain seniority and influence there: essentially a wasted seat. Usually move from the House to Senate is an elevation, but here it'll be a demotion.

I understand it made some sense for Mike Castle. Before Biden leaving his seat, he was leaning toward retiring from politics altogether, but got a chance for maybe short, but nice finish of his career, before Christy upset him in primary. It was also good for the GOP, since he was literally only remaining electable Republican. Maybe Markey wants the same, but it's a wasted seat for Massachusetts, since his successor would have from zero as well.

Senators have more prestige and legacy regardless of actual influence.

LOL, Republicans trolled so much by going after Susan Rice and talking up John Kerry, and Scott Brown doesn't bother to run. I'm presuming Weld doesn't run either, in which case this race is safe D.

Running for Gov. is a better choice for him anyway.

Bqhatevwr.

It's more that the slightly-less-than-inevitable defeat here would have ended his career, while the highly-likely-but-not-inevitable defeat in 2014 won't.

Stephen Lynch should pull a Lieberman and run a strong independent campaign against that Cambridge nutcase.

But why he would do that? He wouldn't win, and would probably be primaried or beated by a Democrat in House in 2014.

Probably good for his career overall. If he goes for governor, he's automatically on the GOP list for 2020/2024. If he goes for senate again, he goes into every re-election as (by default, it being Massachusetts) the underdog.

Also Markey is not from Cambridge. So krazen is simply making as much sense as he normally does.

Stephen Lynch is a union man, and Ed Markey is in fact from Malden.

Indeed, Markey didn't even represent any of Cambridge until 2012, when the redistricting put about a third of it into his seat. Capuano used to represent all of Cambridge and still represents the bulk of it.

I think he's saying he wants that so that the vote is split so a Republican wins, but maybe I'm wrong.
