Obama hasn't even been re-inaugurated yet and he already had his Harriet Miers moment.

No; Miers was defeated because conservatives thought she wasn't conservative enough. Rice was not opposed by liberals, other than perhaps a few irrelevant people on the fringe.

She'll end up in a very good post that doesn't require Senate approval.

With Chuck Hagel looking likely for DefSec, and Susan Rice withdrawing from consideration for StateSec, it looks like those nominations won't be controversial. Though I think Obama will work with the Mass Dems to line up a Senate successor for Kerry, since he's now the de facto StateSec candidate.

You realize Chuck Hagel is pro-Palestinian, right? The Republicans will go insane.
But seriously, anyone but Kerry. PLEASE pick Huntsman.

He was just elected to the House. It's not going to work.

Nah, I don't think they'll go for another Kennedy; I think they'll be eager to show that they won't go for yet another Kennedy. I'm thinking either Mike Capuano or Niki Tsongas. Though I'm talking from an outsider's perspective, so I could be wrong.

Other rumor I've heard is Ed Markey.

I was concerned about Rice; not because of the Benghazi crap, but because she owns massive stock in the company that wants State Department approval to build the Keystone XL pipeline.

She's wasn't necessarily my first pick, but I am disgusted to see her forced to withdraw her name over this. If it is Kerry, they had better get things in good order for his Senate seat.

I don't see Scotto wasting the political capital he has left on another less-than-two year Senate term, do you?

It wasn't just Benghazi, there was all sorts of stuff being leaked in the NYT about her investment portfolio, her temper, and her African tenure under Bubba. Apparently she made a lot of enemies in ClintonWorld, and given the stuff that's being leaked comes from those days... draw your own conclusions.

Brown: He should run for guv and leave the Senate alone IMO.

The Senate seat will easily go to the Democrat. Scott Brown is vying for Governor - it is a much less partisan position that he should have a fairly easy time in getting.
