Four points is doable in a midterm if 2014 is a Democratic year.

McConnell, for all his power, is far more likely to be willing to work with Obama than anyone from the right who replaces him. No way am I rooting for a primary challenge here.

I'm rooting for a minority leader replacement who may be angrier but lacks McConnell's skills... Forget compromise.

No reason to think the economics for coal, especially CAPP coal, will be improved by 2014, so Eastern Kentucky should be a pretty miserable place.  Not that Republicans can do squat for them, unless they decide to outlaw fracking, but all the same, I suspect they'll still be blaming Obama for their demise.  Tough environment to run in.

The thing is that it appears unlikely, right just now, that it will be (historical precedent, six-year itch, ladida -- not impossible, just unlikely), and on top of that most undecideds in Kentucky are likely to be conservative-leaning. Being 4 points behind in, say, NH, means nothing. 4 points behind a Republican in KY in an Obama midterm would take remarkable luck and skill to overcome.

Why on earth would you want that? That's bound to end in tears, ugliness, and reaction. We'd get some horrendous Koch-backed, Norquist-pleading Tea Party type. That wouldn't be good at all.

I do wish Elaine Chao would run for Senate. Asian American, woman, cabinet experience, the exact sort of person I'd like to see more of in the GOP as officeholders. It would have been cute to see McConnell and Chao serving together in the Senate, a far better sight than Rand Paul.

Does Elaine Chao have any tie to Kentucky other than having married McConnell 20 years ago?

I disagree with 99% of this post. Only part I agree with is that Elaine Chao would be a decent Senator.

Hey, Mitchy boy.

Remember that time you wanted to keep West Virginia University out of the Big 12? Well, West Virginians don't like YOU either! (And as this thread proves, neither do Kentuckians)

I will personally donate money to the man or woman who has the best chance of primarying your Louisville-loving, WVU-hating  butt!
