One minor thing before we take this to a final vote.  We should probably put all of the federal language in this bill.  Unless we want our election procedure to change with the federal procedure (if it were to change).

Would this amendment fix that issue?

I'll look over this tomorrow and make sure everything checks out.  I've gotta study for contracts tonight, and I don't have time to get my head wrapped around that big of an amendment.

Mine aren't until next Monday.  It's nice that they're spread out, but I'll be happy when they're done.  It's definitely going to be a bar night next Monay. Wink

Eh, tonight was a "fun" night for me, if you know what I mean. Gotta prepare for this final tomorrow. Wink

By the way, the Section 3 guidelines I inserted were taken word-for-word from the federal guidelines on how to conduct At-Large Senate Elections, so I don't think you should stress yourself about proofreading it too much unless there are obvious mistakes. Smiley

One note: you'll want to change the reference to SOFA in Clause 14 there.

Thanks, I just changed it to "Governor or Acting Governor".

Yeah, that was why I wanted to look it over, not because there might be mistakes, but that something federal doesn't apply.

Okay, I'm glad the mistake was fixed then.

Could we have the vote then?

Yeah, we'll do it sometime next week.  I really want to have time to double check everything before we change this (since last time, we ended up having to pass last-minute emergency laws to ensure we could properly count votes), but I'm going to wait until after exams... we've still got plenty of time in the session; there's no rush.  I fully plan on having this done by the end of the week.

That was supposed to say "What does that mean?" ... my right hand must've been starting on "k", not "j".

The vote on this will be opened tomorrow.  My last final is in the morning.  I'll review everything and make sure everything works here, and we'll be good to go.

One minor typo has been fixed.  Voting is now open on the following version of the bill.  Members will vote AYE, NAY, or ABSTAIN.  This will be a 48-hour vote.

NAY

I see no reason to change our voting method from what it currently is.

I strongly encourage members of the Assembly to vote AYE. Smiley I've already laid out my case throughout this thread - under the current system, one side could easily manipulate the voting to take all 5 seats with only a bare majority. Actually, even a minority could pull it off under the right circumstances.

Hope you don't mind me intruding.

I strongly urge the Assembly to pass this important and worthwhile change to the Mideast's electoral system. The current election system is fundamentally unfair, and STV allows a more proportional result without losing the ability to cast votes for individuals (such as through party lists....which I support, but I understand the concerns some might have about them.).
