Better them than the US. It's worth pointing out that there is no vote on this - either all countries agree to a treaty or there isn't one.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

What about things like UNICEF or the World Heritage Fund?

Well the UN is certainly doing a masterful job of preventing the slaughter of innocent children in Syria now aren't they?

As masterful a job as the US or any other individual country, obviously including Syria, is doing, sure.

But the purpose of the UN is quite something different from the purpose of the US &co.

True. The idea that the UN is really bad at this part of its purpose isn't a new or particularly controversial one. The idea that the UN shouldn't exist is...sketchy, to say the least.

That depends on your definition of "control" - the reason why China etc support this notion is that the UN might be more amenable to pleas to actually do some controlling (which would be a bad thing), but the US does sort of "control" it at present. Your government controls the domain name system for all the world, for one.

Well, sort of, but it's certainly not "control" in the usual use of the word or the way it's been used in this thread up until now.  And I seriously doubt that's what London Man was thinking when he made his post.

I would assume he did. However much he knows about it exactly, of course (not that I know all there is to know about either the current state of affairs or what exactly is proposed here; I admit that I do not.)
