Whig Party/Imperial Bloc merger transition thread (CLOSED)

So the Whig Party & Imperial Bloc have now officially agreed to merge, which is great, but it's only the first step. We now need to decide on things such as bylaws & even a name for the new party. So I have decided that, during this this transition period, we need a new Chairman & Vice-Chairman, one that is elected by members of both the Whig Party & the Imperial Bloc. So there will be a 48 hour nomination period before a vote will begin to select the interim Chairman & Vice-Chairman.

1) Yeah, I'll increase the nomination period to 48 hours.
2) I'll withdraw my nomination for Vice-Chairman if I hear any complaints from the IB, but if not than we'll just continue on the current path.

Many good suggestions have been made regarding the future leadership of this party.
The thing that matters most to me is that the future chair and vice chair are able and willing to lead (or at least oversee) the GOTV activities of our party before and during all elections. Also, the new chair and vice chair should preferably play an active role in the recruitment of new party members. In general, the party leadership must communicate actively with the party base, for example by sending PMs to all members when it's necessary and posting in threads that are relevant for the party (e.g. convention threads).
That's not to say that the chair and vice chair have to do all of the work on their own, but they certainly have to be very active on these fronts. If you're motivated to do this, go for the job.

We haven't gotten to deciding the name yet, although I think it will most likely be the "Federalist Party". But if you wanted to become involved before we decide on the name you could always register as either a Whig or IB member.

     Thanks for the nomination. In the RPP, I handled recruitment for a long time as Vice-Chair. I don't know that I'm active enough on the rest of the forum to be good at that anymore, but I could do my best at it and also work teaching other people to recruit new members.

Maybe, but I think we should decide on a name before we start working on the platform & bylaws. Although I suppose it will be up to Clarance what we do next, since he's going the interim Chairman.

I think our leadership should consist of both a former Whig and IB member - at least in this initial phase. This way, it becomes more clear that the Whig Party doesn't simply absorb the IB but that there is a real merger. Also, with Clarence at the helm, who is a conservative, PiT (and Goldwater to a certain extent) can ensure that the existing diversity within the new party is mirrored by the leadership.
