Yes i agree. America was being taken over by communists at that point look at Henry Wallace he was a open Communist and our vice president we had communists in the federal government everywhere. McCarthy had the right idea and he was good but he took it to far when he started abusing his power and going after non communists. He did good against communists but against non communists was evil.

Outside of the simple fact you can't fight communism with essentially communist methods, mccarthyism did more damage than any "good".

As of Henry Wallace, he wasn't a communist, he was naive about them. At least he admit he was wrong after 1948.

Well, Nathan, as a libertarian there is no reason I would ever vote for a Democrat. What I said was probably a bit of hyperbole on my part but the fact that Roosevelt and Truman defended Alger Hiss and Harry Dexter White does play into my dislike of the modern Democratic Party. I do not dislike Democrats however. For example, you are a Democrat but you are probably one of the smartest people I have spoken with so I do not dislike you simply due to your party registration.

Oh, no, I get all that, it just strikes me as rather silly. I don't imagine you'd vote for most Democrats anyway, so why use things that happened before by far the vast majority of the current US population was born to justify that fact? Continuing to fight the Cold War strikes me as silly in general, although I suppose it can also be appealingly tragic in some circumstances.
