If a Texas poll is done, could we also get white/black/Hispanic breakdowns? Sorry if that's too much. Smiley

Chuck Hagel announces withdraw from the Presidential Race

"Senator McCain has passed a threshold in which I can not continue on. Thus, I will be leaving the Presidential race, for good. We ran a great campaign and we did the best we could, but it's tie to stare into the eyes of reality. I will not be endorsing either McCain or Gingrich as of yet, though I am almost sure that McCain will take the nomination from here on out, and a lot of it will depend on his foreign policy rhetoric from here on out. Until then, I am butting out of Presidential politics and leaving Washington when my term ends as Senator."

OOC: Hagel was running a great campaign. McCain posted late and of worse quality not only than Hagel, but than Gingrich and Paul. How come he won that easily?

McCain ultimately has a much better handle on the pulse of the GOP, and had the advantage early on that was hard to break, particularly because, as Hagel, my numbers didn't surge in Florida and Louisiana until way later.

Oh Le Do It...

Chuck Hagel endorses Barack Obama!

"I would like to remind everyone that I still stand as a Republican. However, I will not stand as a partisan Republican. I believe that Democrats have the right ideas some times and we need to work together to build ideas. I believe, right now, the apparent nominee is not going to be someone that I feel is going to do whats right for this time in history. McCain is a good man, and we're friends, but I honestly believe that he will take us to the wrong place at the wrong time. The man with the ability, and the skill, as I have seen him in the Senate, is Barack Obama. Senator Barack Obama will change this nation, and I believe he will move us forward the way we need to."

"I thank Senator Hagel for his kind endorsement, and hope to see him help more in the future, after I win the nomination. Chuck knows that America needs a Change. And out of the field of candidates, only I possess the bi-partisan credentials to bring about that Change."

Hagle's delegate splitting is done. Polls and the delegate GOP total should be up tonight.

Following the exit of Chuck Hagel the media zoomed in on his now unpledged delegates who began privately and publicly announcing whom they would support. 2 factions soon emerged. The Gingrich-ites believed McCain was Hagel's enemy and that the delegates should continue the opposition to McCain under the Gingrich banner while McCain's people called out Gingrich's "harsh conservatism". Ultimately the more moderate McCain won more delegates than Gingrich and managed to clinch the nomination.

Republican Delegate Total:

John McCain 1,939 (81.40%)
Newt Gingrich 452 (18.60%)

Total 2,382

Democratic Polling:

Texas:
Howard Dean 45%
Blanche Lincoln 36%
Oprah Winfrey 11%
Barack Obama 3%

Vermont:

Howard Dean 81%
Oprah Winfrey 10%
Obama 5%
Lincoln 1%

Ohio
Howard Dean 40%
Oprah Winfrey 27%
Barack Obama 23%
Blanche Lincoln 1%

Rhode Island:

Howard Dean 66%
Oprah Winfrey 14%
Barack Obama 11%
Blanche Lincoln 0%

Newt Gingrich gives his Farewell Speech:

"The Republican Primaries are over, and Senator McCain has won the nomination in a fair victory. I congratulate him for this hard fought race and for all the time we have spent in the campaign trail, and I wish to fully endorse him as our nominee, the man who will take the party to victory in November. It's been a very interesting primary season, and I can't express how grateful I am to the people who supported our message; Voters, party leaders, elected officials, volunteers. From Iowa to Texas, we took our message to the very end, and while we couldn't win the nomination, I'm proud of the results we had.

I'm planning to return to the private sector and quit politics for the rest of this year, but should the party and Senator McCain need me, I will gladly go out and campaign hoping for a Republican sweep. We have done it before. We can do it again! Thank you very much."

OOC: Well, it's over. I must say I really enjoyed playing this game, so congratulations to Oldiesfreak, the third party candidates and the democrats who still remain on the race!
