Though I'd give a short, general breakdown of the California Legislature's election results here. Smiley

Assembly:

Party                  As of November 2012     After the 2012 Election
Democratic Party    52                                     56
Republican Party    28                                     24

State Senate:

Party                 As of November 2012     After the 2012 Election
Democratic Party    25                                     26
Republican Party    15                                     12

Democrats really did an amazing job with these results. And to think, none of this would have been possible were it not for the Republican-backed redistricting commission.

Btw, I think there's an error on that site, because the Assembly should be 54-26 and Democrats are supposedly at least at 28 in the Senate.

With this supermajority, I hope Brown will get ballsy and finally raise taxes (though prop 30 already helped some).

California already has some of the highest taxes in the nation. How much higher does it need to go? And I welcome Democrats to do it. They will only be digging their own grave. California may not like Republicans, but it sure as hell doesn't like taxes either.

Brown is not looking to raise any more taxes. It was a perfect plan, really, having the electorate raise their own taxes, and the taxes that Brown wanted raised on the wealthy. If anything, California should lower their sales tax (and reform their property taxes) but that won't be happening.

Reforming property taxes for corporations is something the legislature could do. I am sure there would be a backlash but they just have to sell it right. Ending prop 13 for people is political suicide. It's not a majority position even in the bay area. Although I would support it, for the record.
