They're so serious that the petitioners cited in the article didn't even sign their last names.

I have a question.  Lets assume that the Republican states secede.  What would happen to the United States?  Would they split into 3 or 4 countries?
Would they negotiate getting land from the Republican states in order to connect the East Coast to the West Coast and Colorado & New Mexico?

What would the new countries be named and where would their capitals be?
Would any states join Canada or some other countries?
I would like to hear what everyone thinks.

What if states switch from red to blue or vice versa?  We could have a system where states switch country they're part of depending on who they voted for last election.  Wink

The South will rise again... only to collapse again.

This, ideally, is precisely what needs to happen. I think we'd all be much better off as Atlasia-style regions. Tongue

Wouldn't it be time to add Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, Florida and North Carolina/Indiana/Omaha if they wanted in?

We should let them. Give anyone who wants to stay in the United States (blacks) amnesty, and re-settle them in swing states. After their new country collapses into anarchy after a few years, invade and take control of its resources and put in place a puppet government.

I wonder if the petitioners realize their efforts only make the Republican party look more and more extreme in the eyes of the electorate?

Republicans can claim that these people don't represent their views, but who is the electorate going to say these views represent? The Democrats?

No. That leaves the Republican party in this two party system of ours.

So this begs the question...

Would Rick Perry finally become President of something?

I like this idea. Seriously it might be away to finally end the Governmental gridlock in the United States. Just have a common foreign and defence policy.

I have a better idea.

1. Give secession to most of Alabama and Mississippi, minus the coastal areas and the portion bordering the Mississippi River.
2. Have a grace period of six months where we let people want to move in and out accordingly. Those wishing to leave the area will be subsidized, those wishing to enter will have to do so at their own expense.
3. After the grace period, wall off the entire area under the guise of preventing illegal immigration into the new nation.
4. When the wall is complete, nobody is allowed to leave.

Problem solved.
