And for the first time it seems VA will be more Democratic than the nation.

Glorious news for future presidential cycles !

Glorious news for future presidential cycles !

The last time that happened was in 1948, when Truman defeated Dewey by 7 in VA, but only by 4 nationally.

Great news! Virginia will be important for Democrats in even closer races to come.

I could totally see a reverse Tilden/Hayes situation in the near future with VA and CO coming in this far left of the nation and FL potentially shifting that way.  And who would have thought Ohio actually didn't matter this year?

They just need to make sure that they have a say in the next redistricting.  VA probably gains a seat and a court would very likely draw a 6D-6R map.  They can re-take the state senate just by electing a D LG in 2013.  Of course there is a Blue Dog in coal country who is very obviously going down in the next cycle, but there is at least one Obama seat in NOVA still on the table for them to flip and make up for that.

Yeah, the only really vulnerable State Senate seat Democrats still hold is the one held by Luke Puckett in coal country.  Every other one they hold went for Obama by double digits and even went for Kerry in 2004.  So they have 19 pretty safe seats.

Pretty much most of eastern VA has seen impressive Democratic increases - if this keeps up it's a lean Dem state. I think younger, more educated folks coming in are helping, like with NC.

Yes, VA and CO are the big news, not OH.

There are over half a million provisional ballots left to count in Ohio that overwhelmingly favor Obama.

Half a million ? Where did you get that number from ?

The SoS site from OH says 325.000 ballots.

Huh, I thought it was 700K or so. Still, Obama will gain a lot of ground in Ohio when they're counted on November 17th.

Honestly, before polls starting showing abmornall strength for Obama in Ohio, I always thought that Obama would do much better in VA/CO than in OH/FL.  It turns out my original instinct was correct.

The nightmare 2016 scenario:

Rubio/Jindal 51%/268 EV

Warner/Klobuchar 48%/270 EV

VA-09 swings 10% back to Warner and decides the election.  Good luck convincing the rest of the country that it's because he likes guns...

That's nice but I think it would be less close than that.  NV/CO aren't going to some uncle Tomás Cuban.
