I recall reading Charles Colson's autobiography Born Again, where he talks about how he (illegally) distributed mailers which tried to attach then-incumbent  Republican Leverett Saltonstall to then-presidential candidate Kennedy in hopes of having Saltonstall ride on Kennedy's coattails. AND it worked.

I don't think this will work, though.

Does CT have it like in NY where you have a candidate listed as belonging to more than one party?  That seems to be what this is (McMahon and Obama as the "Independent Party" candidates)

Obama is not listed as an Independent Party candidate. That ballot position belongs to Rocky Anderson.
