'deadheat' being an appropriate word as it includes 'dead'.

3 points behind in an internal is a dead heat? Okay.

I'll add - I never expected this to be a blowout like early polls indicated. Open Senate races in election years with no lopsided turnout for one party or the other are rarely huge landslides. I'll be shocked if Fischer doesn't win though.

Yeah, this might end up being close than I expected, but considering what I expected, that is saying very little.  Still, good on Kerrey for putting up a fight here.

This is NOT an internal poll for Kerrey. It was done by one of Nebraska's premier newspapers, and is not partisan spin.

This is probably their registered voter sample, so he's probably down further among likely voters (I'd guess 7-8), but I'm glad he'll probably put in a respectable performance even as he loses. I really like Kerrey and hope that this is an indicator he can avoid an embarrassing blowout.

Omaha World Herald does internal polling? I hope you guys are right! If this is actually a dead heat, this will be the most spectacular failure for a party in a single cycle ever. And just remember: the GOP takeover was "inevitable" in 2012. This year is another example of why cockiness/speaking with absolute confidence years in advance is totally asinine.

Aside from this being a disaster for the GOP (again, if true), it would also mean a possible victory for a man that should never win anything ever. Not after his disgusting comment.

I do agree that the comment was quite bizarre and rude, but it's not something that should disqualify Kerrey from holding public office.

You don't know "the comment"?

Circa 1995, in reference to a certain freshmen Senator from Pennsylvania. Tongue

Wow, talk about a huge boost to Pharos Research Group's credibility. They showed it this close a couple of days ago and I was pretty sure they were on crack.

Still don't believe Kerrey can win. At most, he'll make it embarrassingly close for Fisher.

This is almost the exact opposite of what is going to happen in PA.

Interestingly, this seat has been in Democratic hands since 1976, with exception of a short 1987-1989 period, when it was held by an appointed Republican.

Is Deb Fisher really THAT BAD candidate that this race is becoming close? Nebraska is not Delaware, Nevada, nor even Indiana and I did not expect Kerrey to perform so well now.

That was way back in 1995.  And compared to what Dan Savage has subsequently done to Santorum's name, what Kerrey uttered was kid stuff (other elected officials have used equally salty language and survived), and no more of a tar upon him than Santorum's own arguably-oddball utterances have been upon himself.

Hopefully PPP includes this (and an NE-02 sub-sample) as part of their final 20-state polling extravaganza.
