Jersey Shore - conservative except support gun control
South Fla. Cubans - conservative except on English language issues
Amish areas - conservative except for pacifism

African-American areas - liberal except for gay rights (though of course would not interfere with their Democratic voting habits)

any others come to mind...

lower OC for the most part is conservative in registration and voting except on what I call "below the belt" issues.

Having spent a lot of time in Orange County, it's no doubt the most conservative area in Southern California. However, I think it's conservatism is more rooted in economics and law & order issues. Socially the area is much more moderate. They voted for Prop 8 but seem to be fairly liberal on abortion. Even on gay marriage, OC seems to be shifting. The last time I was there I was shocked at the number of gay clubs opening up.

Blacks are trending more liberal on same-sex marriage based on polling (likely the NAACP endorsement and Barack Obama's endorsement has it gaining support as a civil rights issue).

West Virginia is an interesting hodgepodge--pro-union and supportive of a lot of state funding and aid, but the issues of coal, gun control, and same-sex marriage swing them to the GOP on a presidential level.
