seems like the recent polls since first debate show Romney closing the female gap.  silver is a hack.

In the wee hours of the night, I sometimes wonder if it would be better to re-restrict the vote to white males....

Why is the gender gap almost always cast as the GOP has problems with women almost never as the Democrats have problems with men?

Maybe because the Democrats aren't pushing policies that restrict mens' rights?

Some of the recent polls are showing the gender gap narrowing to nonexistent.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ap-gfk-poll-romney-erases-obama-advantage-among-women-while-obama-gains-ground-with-men/2012/10/25/7058105c-1e73-11e2-8817-41b9a7aaabc7_story.html

Gallup has it at +8.  PPP has it the highest at +12.  AP has it 0.

Why doubt him? Republicans have made it clear they only care about white males and the stooges who submit to them.

A single AP Poll is not indicative of the gender gap "narrowing to non-existent", J. J>

When have the Democrats said anything offensive towards men? Where are the Democrats pushing to restrict the rights of men?

The Democrats have problems with white men, who make up a disproportionate share of the electorate. But that says less about Democrats, than it says about white men.

The Gallup is a sign of the narrowing part.  We have three.  Two show narrowing to nonexistent.

Regardless of who you support, I think we can all agree that this ethnic and gender polarization of the US is a very sad thing and the lingering sign that something is wrong with US politics.

The polls are linked to the WP blog.

Gallup showed a drop from +14 to +8 from 2008.  AP said it didn't exist.

(Some people really do have the soul of an oppressed martyr. Really).

Again, what sort of division is this, really?

Why is the gender gap almost always cast as the GOP has problems with women almost never as the Democrats have problems with men?

Because people often wrongly think of men as the "default" group.  See Nichlemn's post here:

For example, this story from 2000 claims that Bush was on the "wrong side" of a gender gap due to trailing his overall numbers among women. Another example is this recent PPP blog post which calls Democrats the "beneficiaries of a gender gap", although it's not as bad because it does mention how men favour Republicans.

However, you could just as easily claim that Gore was the wrong side due to trailing his overall numbers among men. The fact of the matter is: all over-performances among some group or groups must be matched by under-performances among some other group or groups. Sort of like Newton's Third Law. Yet whenever I see the gender gap analysed, it's always treated as if this benefits Democrats. Why is this so? Is there some subconscious sexism, the idea that men are treated as the "default" group and so we think of the "male vote" as being roughly synonymous with the overall vote, but the "female vote" as a separate category?

You mean women feel alienated from the Republican party? I wonder why. Smiley

Very true. Also, the majority of elected officials (of both parties) are men, so it's harder to argue that Democratic leadership is anti-male, than the other way around.

With the gender gap plus the racial gap, do you think we could see Romney winning 75% of White Men?
