There's been some chatter lately about why Pelosi pushed back the caucus elections. Any thoughts?

I think she's going to retire from leadership, and wants to see who can rally more Democrats to their side; Hoyer or a challenger. Whoever can do that can "herd cats" and will be effective as a Democratic House leader.

Hopefully this gives a non-Hoyer alternative time to rally support.

Who would she choose to go against Hoyer though? Becerra? Van Hollen?

What PP said. Pelosi is retiring and wants a credible ABH candidate. How long would Hoyer stay though? He's the same age as Pelosi. Need someone in their 50s or early 60s.

I'm thinking it's going to be Becerra; from what I've heard, he's a decent leader, and he could be a perfect symbol of how Latinos are becoming powerful within the Democratic coalition.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

I think Becerra would be a really good choice. Of course, he literally represents Hollywood, but Pelosi represents San Francisco as it is, so.

I don't understand why everyone seems to want her to retire. She did an amazing job for 4 years and nobody can seriously blame her for the 2010 debacle. She deserves a second, a third, a fourth and a fifth chance, at the very least.

First, I want to say that out of all of the potential options, I would be happy with all of them! Yet if I had to rank them, here is my order:

1) Becerra: Progressive, Latino, Young
2) Van Hollen: Young, leadership moves to another area of the country
3) Hoyer: Experience, leadership moves to another area of the country

To me Becerra has everything the Democrats would want in a leader.

Well, for one, she should have said no to cap and trade.  She also should have blocked that horrible extension of the Bush tax cuts at the end of 2010.  After the campaign Republicans ran against Democrats in 2010, you dont go rewarding them by giving them what they want.

It's pretty hard to say no to a President from your party when you're the House majority leader. I'm sure Nancy was dying to tell Republicans to f**k off.

No it isnt.  Gingrich did it when he blew helped blow up the first Bush-Dem Congress tax deal in late 1990.
