And this piece of trash will still get over 40% of the vote. Pathetic.

And, of course, he has forgotten that he went to Washington D.C. too.

So why are we talking about Richard Carmona's possible sexism when we've got Akin sexism right here?

Well, at least this one was just stupid, which is an improvement compared to his first comment, which was - to use his own choice of wording - legitimately inexcusable.

So why are we talking about Richard Carmona's possible sexism when we've got Akin sexism right here?

Because, news flash, neither one is right, even if Carmona just happens to affiliate with your party.

Todd Akin is the poster child for the GOP War on Women.

He could still win. It's unlikely at this point, but if Obama bombs the third debate and Romney starts to pull away, it's still possible Romney could just barely drag him over the finish line.

Who is "we?" Carmona's comments have gotten hardly any play.

As for Akin's most recent comment, I think you guys are really reaching now.

He just compared a female politician to a dog and there is absolutely zero reason to give him any benefit of the doubt now.

The man cannot even keep his sexist comments consistent.  Earlier McCaskill was "like a wildcat."

Yes, calling a political opponent a "lapdog" for an unpopular interest is common in politics. If you want to make the argument that calling a woman opponent a lapdog is sexist, that's one thing. Let's not all say it is suddenly sexist because Todd Akin said it about a woman.

I hate Akin, but this comment is nowhere near as bad as the rape thing.

Of course it's not nearly as bad as the rape thing, but it's still a little sketchy.

Akin said she was like a dog, not a lapdog.  And not all politicians have a history of making knuckle-dragging comments about women like Akin does.  Are you seriously trying to defend him?

Roll Eyes

"Go fetch." It's implying she's a lapdog. Stop playing stupid.

And don't try the boogeyman routine "Are you trying to defend Akin?!" (cue to scary music) with me. I'm saying this is a ridiculous reach and that people shouldn't be able to get away with it just because Akin is the target.

Lap dogs don't play fetch, though. They're bred to, well, sit in your lap. I wouldn't expect to have returned a frisbee thrown for a shih-tzu.

Well, true. Tongue  That said, though, in a political context, being a lapdog is means one does whatever their "master" wants so "go, fetch" would make sense.

You know, oftentimes the talk radio mantra is that Democrats want to run against Moderate candidates because they will blur the lines or not make distinctions. Very rarely is such the case, especially in a primary with three conservatives in it. Here you could even see a mile away, who their preferred candidate was. Todd Akin is a guy who has been around and in Washington for over a decade. They knew him well from before and again in his year long campaign that he was not a very competent candidate for statewide office and his mistakes, could be properly exploited and used to elect an unpopular Democrat. If you are having the Democrats dump over a million dollars in a primary with ads orchestrated in just a way to help a particular candidate in a multi-candidate primary, my advice is "Don't vote for them".

We are great at calling out the other side for messing around in our primaries, where we suck is properly identifying their motivations and aims for doing so. The reason for this is that there is a tendency on the right to always assume that in every instance the more ideologically preferrable guy is also always the most electable guy and that such is the only consideration in that. In some instances that is true, I think Pat Toomey was in a far better position to hold PA Class 3 then Specter (God Rest his Soul) before his switch in April 2011, because people were tired of the incumbent and so forth. Toomey was also a very competent candidate, who respectfully acknowledged that people can disagree with him on certain issues and still come to his table on other things, and yet at same time he is a man of firm principles.

This dynamic was especially a misdirection in Missouri, because you had three conservatives, running against each other not a TP versus establishment incumbent primary. So to pick one of them over the others because Reid's PAC and McCaskill, said he was a far right conservative, just seems all the more stupid in hindsight.

Candidates don't lose because a group of voters is involved in a conspiracy to deprive a certain ideological view. If you think that, then you must really believe there is no hope at all, because you are acknowledging your people will never win. Conservatives do win, all over the place, even in swing states like Florida and Pennsylvania. There is no reason for a conservative to lose in MO because he is a Conservative. The same applies to Alaska, to Nevada and to Colorado. There is a reason for a candidate to lose if he causes people to question their judgement, intelligence, or concern for them in their struggles. Akin most certainly offended one and three to be sure. Most Missouri voters are pro-life, the problem Akin has isn't because of his abortion position, it is because he can't articulate that without being disrespectfull to people, and while a majority is most likely pro-life in MO, there is a number of people who control the balance of power, who want to see sympathy and understanding even while advocating for the principle, not sheer disrespect and lack of concern. Paul Ryan has the same position, as does Mike Huckabee. Both would win Missouri against McCaskil had they lived there and been running.

It's such a shame he couldn't be the Republican nominee in every Senate race.

Ugh, not every. I can think of a couple dozen States where he would win anyways.
