And this was posted from your work computer, correct?

I'm still at work, about to get off in 30 minutes.  Things are still very fluid and have a tendency to change.  They're still planning on beginning the layoffs on March 1, but the news today is that there is debate as to where the draw the line on cuts.  Right now, as of yesterday, my class which came in November 6 is on the line and they don't know if the cuts will reach my class or stop with the class that came in December 3.  Right now, nobody knows if my class will be cut or not.  We're pretty sure the September 24 class (the class preceding mine) is safe.  We're also pretty sure the December 3 (the class succeeding mine) is in jeopardy.  What happens, though, with my class, is the big question mark in the room.  I'm going to act as if my class will be cut, because I don't want to get to March 1 and become a free agent with nothing to fall back on.  On the other hand, I don't want to start over unnecessarily.  I'm already well established at Xerox and was on track to become permanent anytime between February and May where I might get a raise.  The calls the past two days indicate the pace is starting to pick up.  We're still slow, but the open slots for VTO are not as numerous.  Most days there have been 7-8 slots open for VTO.  Yesterday, there was no VTO.  Today, there were only 4 slots for VTO and nothing forced.  Things seem to be picking up which makes me think the March 1 cuts may be canceled altogether, because the last thing the company wants to do is cut half the staff on March 1 and then find themselves in a pickle and missing SLA and have to turn right around and hire more staff before April 1.  That's one reason why my class may or may not be safe.  They may not make that decision for a while until they can forecast March, April, and May traffic.  So, I'll talk to my parents, but there is a possibility I may be staying at Xerox long past March 1.  If I can, that would be the most ideal scenario.  I was going to go seek out another sales opportunity this afternoon, but I may go on home instead.

Alright, alright, you caught me red handed.  I took off an hour early at 12:30 today for involuntary VTO as one of those 4 slots that were offered.  Since my shift ends at 1:30, I am usually the first to get let go during the day.  So, I was home at the 13:08 mark.

I don't believe that someone who was at risk of having no income would voluntarily take a cut in his paycheck.  I don't think I caught you red handed taking a VTO.  I think I caught you red handed being unemployed.  Sorry, Jeff... I just don't buy that you actually still have a job.

So why did you randomly lie about being at work, even without being asked about it?
And do your parents know you took a VTO today?

Impulse decision.

I don't hide VTO from my parents.  I feel I owe it to them if I take VTO to tell them I took VTO.

But now, with me being a part of two accounts, that will eliminate the chance or the need for VTO.

So you're an impulsive liar... and why aren't you seeking psychiatric help yet?  Seriously... you have something(s) wrong with you... you need help.

I things have been so slow though, why would you even consider staying? I'd be out of there so damn fast.

Well, this second account is known to be a bit busier.  That phone call from my boss could just as easily been a job ender.  I was very fortunate it turned out to be a job saver.

Not only am I staying, but there is talk of a possible raise in the next few months.

Inks, I recognize there is something just not right, but I don't have the money to seek professional help.  So, right now, I'm having to work on it by myself which is not the best method, but the only method I have at this point in time.

You don't have money because you keep taking freaking time off!  Talk to a pastor... they're free.

Things should settle back down pretty quickly.  March 1 is just another day on the calendar now.

Wrong. Napoli vs. Juventus.

More important than that, though, March 1 is the eve of my son's 9th birthday.  Felix will be 9 years old on March 2.  (14:00 3/1/2013 in Utah).

Yes... a pathological liar with no self-discipline who is dependent on his parents for money yet still takes time off willy-nilly is exactly the type of person who should adopt children.  I'm sorry, Jeff, but that would be borderline child abuse.

If you expect to ruin my evening by thinking how much of a failure I am, forget it.

No, I expect you to act like an adult.  Jeff, you want to adopt these children - wake up - that'd be a disaster.  For you, and more importantly, for them.

How much money have you given up for VTOs so far?  And like I said, pastors are free to talk to, and you glossed over that.

You're not a failure, Jeff... you need help.  And you need to realize your problems have the potential to hurt others... if you're telling these kids you're going to adopt them and get denied because you have severe psychological or psychiatric problems, that doesn't just affect you; that affects them.  The only way you're a failure is in failing to seek the help that you need.  Quit making excuses.  Yes, the bills will always be there... you have "free" Indian healthcare... have you even looked into whether or not it covers mental health?

Quit coming up with excuses and do something before you destroy yourself and other people.

Do we know yet if our boy was part of some Internet girlfriend "hoax?" Sorry if I'm jumping ahead in the episodes but I think we should get on top of this.

And you criticize me for what I said?  At least my advice was helpful, although critical... You're just mocking the guy.

Stay classy.

Do you dislike porn, Inks? I find it hard to believe any healthy guy in his 20s would. Perhaps you just haven't found your particular niche interest yet. There's a cornicopia to choose from. No need to starve yourself out of self-hatred. Embrace it.

Inks is right. Whether or not it's ok to discuss porn, Bushie said he was done with the topic and people should leave it alone.

No; his wishes have nothing to do with it... that was the agreement he made when the thread was reopened.  Short of a death threat, people can say whatever they want about him, but the discussion right now is inappropriate for the site.

Just to confirm, we have carte blanche on personal attacks on this thread, so long as there is no explicit threat of violence?  I was unaware that a moderator can suspend ToS selectively on one thread.

Within reason.  Typically when a thread gets overly attacky, it just gets locked... we stopped doing that, and Jeff was adamant that he could handle whatever people said, or he would lock it himself.  Now, attacks against other posters will be infracted as usual, but the range allowed against Jeff is more broad.  It's not so much suspending the ToS as it is the type of situation where you're in the bad part of Detroit, and you run the red light, and the cop does too... it's just way too messy to deal with.

Phil, this policy has been in place for over a year...

And Memphis, if we actually fully enforced the ToS in this thread, half the forum would be on mute or banned by now.

Having established that this thread is a red light district of sorts, why then is mentioning porn disallowed?

Because it's getting too sexual.  Which affects people other than just someone who is personally attacked.

I think I have figured out the key to my eyesight. When I'm tired and sleepy, my vision gets steadily worse until I go to bed. By the time I go to bed, my vision is pretty lousy, actually as everything is blurry. When I'm awake, my eyesight is quite a bit better. I still have a little blurry vision, but its mostly pretty sharp.
Have you been to an optometrist? That doesn't seem right.

I can't.  I have no vision insurance and I can't afford a hefty price tag.  I likely won't get insurance until June or so and I highly doubt the Indians cover vision.

Those two statements do not match up.  Have you even checked if your Indian insurance covers it?

I have officially begun my "Biggest Loser" challenge.  I just finished 30 minutes of light core exercises.  I have started a 4 week challenge to get started and then I can move on from there.  I plan to work out for about 30 minutes a night.  My starting weight, though, is lower than what my scale shows in my kitchen.  The kitchen scales show 266 while the Wii Balance Board shows 246.  My first weigh in is next Friday, January 25!

Is your Wii balance board on carpet?

Yes

Then that's probably why.  The carpet is absorbing some of your weight instead of the scale absorbing it all, leading to a lighter weight being shown.

It looks like my trip to Kenya has been rescheduled for June 20-30.  I have time to schedule the leave.  It will have been six months since my Christmas vacation, and I don't plan to take any time off until then, so I should be fine.

You'll be fired for taking off for 10 days this soon.

No Gramps, he added a dash in the middle of "2030"... at least that's what I'm hoping. Wink

Good Friday Evening! It was a really good day to end Week 12.  I've got a few things to do either tonight or tomorrow.  I've got to make a Walmart run and get my oil changed.  I do have to make time tonight to work out and weigh in and complete Week 1 of The Biggest Loser Challenge.  So, I will probably do that after the Utah Jazz/LA Lakers game at 11:00 pm.  I'm in no hurry for bed time tonight, so it may be 1:00 am before I hit the sack, because I've got all day tomorrow to run my errands.  This coming week, Week 13, will be interesting.  I'll work the normal 40 hours, but I may get in some overtime Thursday night, January 31 - Friday morning, February 1 10:00 pm-2:00 am.  That would be some sweet overtime!  I can make my decision as late as Thursday Midday.  Stay tuned on that.

What decision is there to make?  When someone offers you overtime, the only acceptable answer is yes, unless you're having a heart attack or your appendix has burst (not that you have appendicitis - you can work through that; to say "no" to overtime, one must be on the verge of imminent death).

Bushie, whatever happened to your stated desire to follow Kenyan sports, weather, and news?  Are you still doing that?  Do you still consider yourself "Kenyan" in the same way that you said you did last year?

Did we ever establish how these kids feel about a white man showing up and suddenly calling himself their father because he gives them $30 a month? This whole plot arc fascinates me.

They seem cool with him calling himself "father", but AFAIK, he hasn't told them that he would actually like to legally adopt them:

I still very much consider myself an "American-African" and a "Kenyan".

How so?

Inks, being an African does not necessarily entail being black, which is why I is dislike the politically correct imprecision of "African American". In a more logical world, an "African-American" would be a recent African in to America, which would neatly cover both myself and Bushie if he were to sincerely see himself as Kenyan. I would be (and is) black, but Bushie would obviously not. Yet we have this unhelpful squishyness that leads to linguistic confusion.

It's odd, how this is driven by whites and not the referent peoples themselves. Blacks were fine being called negroes. "Native Americans" prefer Indian (which goes the other way in terms of imprecision). We should just do this more sensibly.

OK, and I spent 5 days in Italy.  That doesn't make me American-Italian.
