I think we can all agree these people are running terrible campaigns. But which one is the worst?

Akin seems to be intent on destroying any chances the electorate would be ready to give him.

Thompson has just been lazy. I think he still has a chance to win, he just needs to remind voters of what he did as Governor.

Akin...I just don't understand this. The guy has ran a horrific campaign - he could have ran a lazy campaign like Thompson and won. He's just made gaffe after gaffe...yet still is in the race.

Mourdock is someone else who hasn't ran a stellar campaign, just due to ridiculous, far-right statements he has made. This is Indiana - he should be leading comfortably, especially with a Presidential race going on.

Tossup between Akin and Murphy - Akin for his mind-boggling ignorance, Murphy for his coming so dangerously close to blowing a race he had no reason to even allow to become close.

Any particular reason(s) Berkley should be included in this kind of list?

Akin. He blew a gimme.

Thompson's just been lazy, not borderline retarded like Akin.

King made the mistake of not saying who he would caucus with, but at least him and Casey were a long way ahead and were merely caught napping rather than not try to win toss-up races.

Berkley and Berg are just kinda flawed. Mourdock is too right-wing and doesn't have the same sort of GE appeal ala Cruz and Rubio, for example.

Murphy I dunno about. He shouldn't have been struggling, but his opponent can spend and Connecticut is one of the few states that appears redder this cycle than the last one.

I think everyone agrees Akin. Number two is a harder pick.

If we're talking about possible contenders though, I think Rehberg deserves at least a (dis)honorable mention. And Elizabeth Warren.

And Pete Stark. My God, Pete Stark.

Are they running a bad campaign though, or just are kinda flawed?

I actually think the former. Rehberg is actually a pretty moderate, cool kind of guy. He's just been awful at selling it and is adept at that thing where he alienates both sides. Not as adept as me, but pretty adept.

And as much as I disagree with Warren's overarching ideology, she knows her stuff. And she's not a bad person or anything. She's been awful at selling herself. Comes off as far more condescending, arrogant, angry, and bitter than I believe she actually is. Of course, my perception of her could always be wrong, but I think she's just running an awful awful campaign. A decade at Cambridge probably makes people forget how to talk to people who aren't solid Democrats.

Toss-up between Thompson and Akin.  I might say Hoekstra if that were an option.

To be fair, Angus King's problems stem more from his lack of a party affiliation than anything else. Consider what he's up against:

Imagine a popular former Democrat governor of your state decided to run for Senate. Normally, a slam dunk! But now consider that maybe there's another candidate on the ballot listed as a Democrat that's going to lower that candidate's vote total by 10% easy. And at the same time, the state Democratic party is absolutely unable to help with any kind of campaigning, in-kind contributions, and GOTV.

It's like the Republicans are running against a popular, albeit unarmed man.

Tommy Thompson didn't do anything for a month after he won the primary and that allowed Tammy Baldwin to define herself, Thompson and and race.

Just look at this clip from the most recent Marquette poll:

"Among likely voters, Baldwin’s favorability rating stands at 40 percent favorable and 40 percent unfavorable, compared to 39 percent favorable and 34 percent unfavorable in mid-September. Thompson received 38 percent favorable to 49 percent unfavorable in the latest poll, little changed from 39-48 in mid-September.

Asked if the phrase “cares about people like you” describes each candidate, 47 percent said it describes Baldwin, while 39 percent said it did not describe her. For Thompson, 41 percent said it described him, while 50 percent said it did not."

He still isn't doing that much campaigning in the state and he's essentially avoided all interactions with the media.

Tommy Thompson is losing in a state where just months ago, the voters decided to let Scott Walker stay in office. He has a terrible campaign.

Akin, clearly, with Thompson and Casey as runner-ups.
