I will not seek re-election to Vice Chair of the Party, to put my full attention toward work as President. I'd rather not focus on the political scene when there's much work to do. I have no doubt that this party has an incredibly deep bench of suitable picks of leadership to replace unimportant me. Tongue

I would have an interest in running for Vice Chairman, but that would mean three officers from the South if I got elected. Cheesy Plus I'm sure Gass will do the job perfectly.

So I endorse the three candidates thus far.

Hmm...I'd like there to be a competitive race just for the sake of it, but I'm not going to run against any of these candidates because they're all better for the job then I am, and I don't see anyone better than them getting in.

A few reasons as to why you should vote for me to become the new Vice-Chair:

- In my opinion the main job of the Vice-Chair is to draft the party's platform. To me this is the most important document our party produces as it puts our party's values, goals and desired policies down on paper for all to see. As the primary author of the by-laws, I feel as though I have shown the ability to construct a big time document for the party.

- While I think that the first draft of the platform was a great start, it at times seemed to me that it was too much of a rehashing of President-Elect Marokai Blue's campaign platform. Not that this was a bad start, but I felt like it missed out on some details and policies areas that should be in our platform. My goal would be to transform first platform into a document that has more precise policy goals and solutions on all issues confronting Atlasia.

- I support the idea of the Labor Party joining Socialist International and stating our membership in the platform.

- The another main job of the Vice-Chair is to make sure that the party has a position on the various pieces of legislation on both the Federal and Regional levels. With help of the ROC's, I will put for bi-weekly reports on the legislation that is being debated in the Senate and the regions. This will allow for party discussion on these matters before we come up with a party stance on the each given issue.

- I would also use my position as Vice-Chair to promote and encourage our party's elected officials, on both the Federal and Regional level, to propose and push for legislation that would promote the points made in our platform. Especially in areas that the points on our platform and the actual laws are the farthest apart.

- Lastly it is my job to recruit new members to the party in order to make sure that we are always growing. I will make sure to reach out to new members of the Atlas Fourm that be a good fit in our party.

While I commend Gass for his eagerness to be an active and even activist vice-chair of the Labor Party, I believe he takes the position in the wrong direction, transforming the leadership of the party into an impersonal centralized top-down party of positions on legislation.

I see the party as more adaptable, and I believe our most important task is to get Laborites elected to office.  From there, we have to trust that elected members will do their best to represent the values of the party, while also allowing them a wide berth for their own nuanced opinions on various issues.

If an elected member was actively promoting policies not supported by the party, then it is the party leadership's job to ask why and try to work it out from there.

First and foremost, the job of the chair and vice chair is to be administrators.  The members of our party and our elected officials have the first word on our official positions, and should have every opportunity to make their voices heard within our party.

Except for a general philosophy, exact positions on issues should be allowed to evolve and stand for compromise in order to get as close to our general philosophy as possible.  We should strive to be a big tent party of left-of-center Atlasians who push for equity and equality among all Atlasians while also acknowledging that people have different talents in different areas.  And only when people are allowed to pursue such talents, does our nation function at its best.  And I'll be the first to admit that sometimes that will push the boundaries of our party's philosophy.

As your vice chair, I would work closely with the party chairman to ensure that the Labor Party operates as a transparent and open party that all left-of-center Atlasians can be a part of, reporting regularly on intra-party politics.  I believe Gass's idea of having a good knowledge is important.  But I do not believe it should be one person's job to acquire all of that knowledge on his own.

I would keep in contact with elected members and other party members in order to consolidate the goings on in the regions and federal government, so we can have an active debate while ensuring that we remain a party of diverse members who are not afraid to voice their individual concerns and stances on issues, even when and if they don't agree with the majority of party members.

I realize the vote has already started, but I hope those of you who haven't yet cast their ballot would consider me for the position of vice chairman of the Labor Party.

Thank you,

LABOR PARTY POLITBURO OFFICER ELECTIONS:

Chair:

[  ] Adam Griffin
[X] Write-in: The Proletariat

Vice-Chair:

[  ] Gass3268
[  ] Snowguy716
[X] Write-in: Pinkie Pie (come on, she's totally a pinko)

General Secretary:

[  ] seatown
[X] Fluttershy

My general secretary vote is presuming that Fluttershy is not confirmed as the next Pope, which I do not expect to happen given the capitalist pigs at the Vatican and their desire to keep their privileged position which depends on continuing to keep the Proletariat unaware of their oppression.
