The funeral he had for his leg makes him a major FF. One also has to applaud how he totally duped the U.S. and Mexican governments in 1846 so that he not only escaped exile in Cuba but also took the reins of power back. That is pretty cool.

No idea.  I have a feeling I know how most Texans would feel, though.

I have a positive opinion.  He had more political comebacks that any other politican in history.  He also kept the country togeather.  Losing Texas is nothing compared to what could have happend where a lot of "core" Mexico were also going to break away if it was not for Santa Anna.  He did end up losing to USA in Mexican-USA war but it was not a work he provoked (he was not even in office when the war started) and he did his best given the conditions of various local political powers were thinking of themselves and not Mexico as a whole.  I would fault him for his 1853-55 administration for really messing up but as a whole, Mexico is genenerally whole because of him.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Texans and Mexicans in general have the same level of esteem for Santa Anna, albeit for distinct and complementary reasons.

And when I was a child, I liked this Napoleonesque but mute general in the movie Alamo Tongue

I guess as a Texan I'm not supposed to like him. But growing up I always thought he was kind of a cool historical figure.
