He must still think he is running for the nomination not the presidency.

He's said numerous times that his plan would include provisions like these. I don't see how this is laugh-out-loud news for the lefties.

Talking about repealing Obamacare on day one of your presidency and then saying that you like some parts of Obamacare?

He may be right but it doesn't sound good. It sounds like he wants it both ways.

Well, he should like parts of Obamacare.  After all, he was the first architect of Obamacare.

Romney is a weak nominee. People have been saying this over and over again. On both sides.

This has been pointed out before, but prior to the passage of 'Obamacare', Romney stated on several occasions that he favored a national version of his Massachusetts health care plan. The man has no principles.

He was by far the best GOP candidate. Can you imagine the Obamaslide against Gingrich or Santorum?

It may be a well-worn cliche', but its true.  Neither campaign can really deny that Romney was the instigator of ObamaCare.  Camp Romney can try to cover it up all they want, but they know it's true.  Although, I don't see ObamaCare being a major issue in this campaign (good thing for Romney).

Can Romney explain how he intends to pay to allow those with pre-existing conditions to get coverage and for young adults to keep their coverage under their parents (conveniently the two most popular provisions of Obamacare) without an individual mandate. Because if those are the only two parts of Obamacare he wants to keep then health insurance premiums are gonna jack up for everybody involved.

Indeed, Dewey was a decent man with true accomplishments in public service.

My point is that it's extremely hard to defeat an incumbent office holder if you basically say "I don't entirely disagree with what Mr. X has done, but here's what I'd do differently..." (Or, even worse, you yourself in many ways made what the incumbent did possible before you decided to make undoing it a key plank of your campaign. Can you imagine if one of FDR's opponents had implemented a New Deal-type program on the state-level and then turned around and said "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!" even after the Supreme Court ruled it constitutional?)

Reagan defeated Carter by running as the antithesis of Carter.

Bill Clinton defeated GHWB not so much by drawing a severe contrast as by being willing to repudiate the parts of his own party that the American people disliked (support for welfare programs with few strings attached; a perceived wimpiness in dealing with other countries) and using his charisma to come across as a transformational figure.

Mitt Romney has no charisma, and has so far shown an unwillingness to call out his own party for its sins (unnecessary wars; a regulatory regime that lead to a financial crisis; an attitude toward governing that resulted in needless suffering and death after Hurricane Katrina).

Thomas Dewey was a decent man. So is Mitt Romney. Hell, so was John McCain. That doesn't get you elected president, though.

Well, that means that he's flip flopped an even number of times on those parts.

Later in the day, Romney flip flopped again on this. Now he's flip flopped on this issue an odd number of times. Another epic fail for Romney.
