This is something else that's the Republicans' fault.

If they didn't close the shelters, this guy wouldn't have had to start a fire to keep warm.

Hah, for a minute I thought you were saying that the homeless guy who started the fire might be Bandit.  Not such a stretch, as Bandid seemed to come from the working poor class - a type of person who is very likely to be homeless at times in the US.

Ah, wasn't this part of the great liberal causes of late 1970's that we shouldn't "warehouse" the mentally ill?

Homelessness isn't necessarily just a problem of mental illness.  When the basic wage is $6.50 or $7.00 an hour, and apartments are at least $500 a month, any working poor person is very apt to become homeless at a moment's notice, even if his brain is functioning in a normal fashion.
