I don't like the 5 hour/day limit.
I think 9 PM is too early.
The minimum wage clause is redundant.
I don't like clause 5 - it inhibits a minor from working with dangerous machinery in an internship where they are trying to learn something that very may well be their career goal.
Clause 6 is absolutely ridiculous - coming from someone who has worked 7 years in the food industry.

Inks stated a lot of my concerns.

Additionally, farm kids need to be protected on this - kids in a family-run business should be exempt.

This is a good bill. But as always, the more detailed a bill is the easier it is to find things to amend.

- I think we can set the limit of working hours to 30 hours a week and also raise the limit of hours an underage person is allowed to work a day (why not 8 hours).
- I agree that underage workers shouldn't be required to work until midnight but as Inks said, 9 PM is a bit too early.
- Clause 5 could be amended in such a way that minors are allowed to operate heavy or dangerous machinery but only under the guidance of a more experienced adult worker.
- While I don't have any experience in the food industry what Inks said probably makes sense. I would simply remove this clause from the bill.

I think 5 hours is fine and working til 9 PM is reasonable as well. Children still have schoolwork to do and have to sleep before school, so they can't work until 12 and then have 3 essays to write and then go to school at 7 AM, it's just too much.

The minimum wage clause is a bit redundant, yes.

I think my intent is clear in Clause 5, and Clause 6 can be scraped, it was really more of a model of the law around where I live.

I think Tmth makes a good point as well.

I'm not sure why the minimum wage bullet is needed.

I'd still recommend adding a clause exempting children in family-run businesses/farms.

Call for an end to debate and a final vote on the amendments and/or the bill.

Hang on - we have several propsed amendments.  Condense it into 1 amendment that shows everything you want changed.

I think Oldiesfreak did condense it into one amendment, right here:

Shouldn't there be a clause in this bill that limits the hours that can be work during the school week. Children should be allowed to work when they are in school, but their education should be their first priority. 30 hours a week and 8 hours a day is way too much during the school year. I'm thinking that there should be an amendment that only allows for 3 hours a day on a school day.

That may actually be sensible, Gass3268. There is a fine line between the personal responsibility of an underage employee or his parents on the one hand and the need for certain legal requirements to ensure that children do their school work on the other hand. I originally assumed that children would only work 30 hours a week and 8 hours a day during their school holidays but it may be that some of them are put under pressure by their employees to work longer shifts even on schooldays, which is not the ideal case.

What do the members of the Assembly think?

That's a very good idea.

Also - in Indiana, you can start working when you're either 14 or 15, but work limited hours. It increases once you turn 16. Thoughts on something like that?

I agree with this idea. An increase in hours as the child gets older would be appropriate as long as it still allows for time for schoolwork.

What about this: All underage employees can only work 3 hours a day on normal schooldays. During their school holidays, however, employees who are at least 14 years of age can work up to 20 hours, those who are 15 25 hours and those who are 16 and older 30 hours a week?

The first bullet of Section 1 was also changed from the original.  I don't have time to make other comparisons, but I know that at least has to be fixed.

OK... Everybody stop.  This is becoming a clustermess... now we're eliminating clauses and not even saying so.

This is where we stand:
