Sad that a world leader died, but what sort of implications does this have for Ethiopia?

In what way? Ethiopia is just a dominant party oligarchy like Egypt under Mubarak, the guy heading it isn't all that important, just like dumping Mubarak didn't necessarily remove the actual power structure in Egypt.

The dominant party in Ethiopia is a bunch of disparate ethnic factions cobbled haphazardly together.

We need Simfan in here to give us his outlook.

I can't say much due to the fact that I am about to board a plane, but really it too early to say much beyond what I said in the other thread. They ought to merge the two.

Depends on how the transition is handled.

I wonder what the opposition coalition from 2005 will have to say about this.

And yeah, this thread needs to be merged with the other.

Hopefully Ethiopia as a centralized state peacefully devolves, with the subjugated nationalities following Eritrea's lead. Of course I could also hope for unicorns.

As horrible as Ethiopia is, Eritrea is even worse.

I don't condone Eritrea's internal politics, but merely suggested other nationalities trapped due to 19th century imperialism secede as they did successfully.

An Oromo state would be a mess.
