I think the election will be closer than this, specially in Wisconsin. An 11-point GOP lead is just too much for a toss-up/lean dem state.

Nonsense. Thompson is a far superior candidate.

The people of Wisconsin obviously prefer a conservative to a Bay Area lunatic like Baldwin.

How the hell is she a "Bay Area lunatic"? She was born in Wisconsin, and has served in the House for Wisconsin since 1999.

Although I think that Baldwin can reach 45%, so the size of the lead is about 2-3 points too high.

Even Krazen agrees the election will be closer than this.

Thompson won't win by 11, that's for sure, but he should probably have an easy 53-47 win or so come November. The state's tilted to the right since Feingold's day, and Thompson's closer to the center than Baldwin.

Getting Thompson as the GOP candidate in Wisconsin was so important, because he's the kind of candidate most likely to post larger leads early like this. And while the election isn't today or tomorrow, the longer he can stay 10 ahead of Baldwin, the longer he can choke out her fundraising.

Agreed. With Hovde, Baldwin would be polling much closer, which would boost her fundraising and cause the Democrats to make a real push for this seat. With Thompson as the nominee, not only will it hurt her fundraising, but it could also lead to Democrats pulling out of Wisconsin early, giving both parties more money to spend elsewhere.

Wisconsin is obviously a tossup, Thompson doesn't have the crossover support he used to have and isn't very popular.
